What the fuck is that little thing? It looks so dumb. This game has terrible space ship designs.

How does that little fin thing even make sense in terms of physics?

1) How do you land that thing?

2) How'd they even build it? How is that little thing on the bottom supposed to support the entire weight of the space ship?

Since when has SHMUP design ever made sense?

Variable geometrey winglet
Utilized for atmospheric manuevers. Due to battle damage it is partially stuck in it's exposed position, otherwise it would be fully retracted for battle on the moon.
If you want to see truely retarded ship designs, pic up any Euro/US shmup.

The ships in Defender look good.

OP, I swear to god you've already made this thread before. And everyone mocked you for being stupid enough to assume that a spaceship would ever need to touch down onto terrain in the first place.

Then it's happening now.
Most spaceships shouldn't generally need to land on the ground. Re-entry is harsh, and climbing back to orbit requires vast amount of dV.

Because it looks cool.

End of discussion.

R-Type had better ships anyway.
