Galerians is such a flawed game. It's basically a race against an invisible countdown, but you don't really understand it until you reach the last disc. If you don't hurry up, you go berserk and instantly kill every enemy that makes close contact with you, but at the same time you become slower and your life starts decreasing fast. To revert or prevent this, you need to take a special kind of drug called Delmetor, which is scattered throughout the levels. The problem is, like any other item, it's scarce, and your inventory is too small, so you constantly find yourself in a situation where you have to sacrifice other valuable resources, just because the game will fuck you up if you don't carry enough Delmetor.

This sounds like a neat concept on paper, but it's not when the game encourages exploration (like any other RE clone), go slow sometimes, and features intense backtracking and key finding.

Long story short, you have to play up until disc 3 at least twice in order to memorize 90% of the game and reach the final boss like a pro and as fast as possible, otherwise you can get stuck.

It's a shame, because the story, setting and overall concept are so fucking good for a survival horror from this era.

If you were planing to give Galerians a chance, I highly recommend to either use a guide, or resume to last save every once in a while when you know exactly what to do next.

"Hey guys, I really got a lot of enjoyment out of Galerians. It's weird as shit and rough around the edges but if you can get past that it has a lot to offer if you're looking for a horror game you may have overlooked. Anyone else a fan?"

Also never say "Long Story Short." It makes you an asshole.

He's autistic.

Galerians was a fun, but heavily flawed little game.

Your story wasn't short, you made it longer than you had to and an awful idiom only draws attention to it.

Why the is this anon so asspained about OP posting more than 1 line of text for his thread? Not everybody knows Galerians very well, so a little bit of info on it would make people more likely to take an interest in responding.

It's one of the better RE clones of its day. I'm more partial to T.R.A.G. and Countdown: Vampires, though.

I've considered giving it a try a few times, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Hellnight is a little higher up on my list of somewhat obscure PS1 horror games I want to play, but I might give it a shot after that.

Following a guide saps all the fun from a game for me, but I'll bear in mind that there is a need for speed. Is Galerians a very long game? If it's fairly short, I don't really care too much about the possibility of getting myself into an unwinnable situation.

Got a list? I've been looking for some lately

Clock Tower (not super obscure, but not very popular either)

Juggernaut (plays similar to Myst, deals with demonic possession)

Soul of the Samurai (Resident Evil with swords, pre-Onimusha)

Nightmare Creatures

Tecmo's Deception, Kagero: Deception 2, Deception 3: Dark Delusion

Fear Effect

"Long story short" not necessarily refers to the whole text, faggot.

Hellnight is great. The precursor of Penumbra/Amnesia and its clones, imo. Although the mechanics are more archaic, there's only one enemy and its spawn pattern isn't heavily scripted like in modern horror titles. Give it a try.

>Is Galerians a very long game?

It isn't, really, but the quality and pacing drop significantly on the second disc.

I would add Martian Gothic: Unification to that list. It is what Resident Evil 0 wanted to be years later.

Do it. Play it. It's a great opportunity to be an asshole to random people in the name of Satan literally

I like Soul Of The Samurai but it's got even less "horror" than Onimusha. It's an action game like Dino Crisis 2, not survival horror...

In a similar style on PS1 I recommend Vampire Hunter D though.
