Here's my example.

In oracle of Ages, the block puzzles where you step on squares to change the colors can still be completed if you fuck up and have a square left. You can place the Cane of Samoria block on the last square and for whatever reason it will still count. Never seen this on any guide nor heard anyone speak of it, but it's definitely a thing.

>>3541715
That's pretty cool. Makes sense if you think about it too. The tiles are activated by weight, and the blocks created by the Cane of Somoria are definitely heavy.

Oh come on guys, I want to be amazed. Here is another example. On Boomer Kuwanger's stage in Mega Man X1, you can actually wall climb on these spikes with no repercussions even though every other set of spikes in the room kills you. Weird stuff.

>> No.3541824

>>3541715
If I remember well, there's one puzzle in particular where you must use the Cane of Somaria in order to pass it. I believe it's in that extra dungeon you get access after you beat both games.

Really? That's pretty cool. I bet I did that back then and just don't recall it at this point. I'd say "how the fuck are you supposed to figure it out?" but I clearly figured it out as a kid, so I suppose it makes sense? It made sense to an 8 year old anyways.

>> No.3541837

>>3541762
apparently you can do it on the rest of the wall, I've seen speedrunners just run into the wall over and over, but I'm not sure what triggers it for the rest of the room

Interesting. Expected to learn new /vr/ stuff, but not about X1. That's a game I've played enough that I figured I'd come across most of the weird stuff by now. Thanks anon! Really appreciate that.

Well, the challenge is to cover every tile of the room in red after all. You definitely have to ruminate bit to come up with the cane solution, which is pretty unorthodox.

Interestingly, I always used that item in LttP when I couldn't be arsed to figure out that crystal switch puzzle in the Dark World Ice Palace. I'd have to complete half of Misery Mire first but still...

I actually have another MMX tip, sorry if it's common knowledge but I found it quite interesting.

In the place on picrelated, you actually can break the blocks WITHOUT the head upgrade. It seems to be a bug, and you need some luck; but if you wall climb on them over and over, they often break by themselves, as if you had the upgrade. So you can get this bonus early. I did that several times.

>> No.3543563

>>3543489
By unorthodox I meant how the cane was used to cover the inaccessible tile of a room where you can't really use any items to take advantage of the puzzle, neither was the cane used that way in any other part of the game (even in other games).

Mighty Final Fight has secret moves for characters. I couldn't figure them for Haggar though.

When you get lvl 4 with Cody, you can do the uppercut instantly. For this, press attack, forward as you do for the ground wave, but then immediately press up. It's very useful as you're invincible while you perform it, so you can easily put down bosses in a matter of seconds.

Guy has one too, and it's done the same way. Press attack, forward, and hold down up. Guy will do two kicks and then do the somersault kick, but in reverse direction. It's not useful at all though, it's super slow and hits backwards.

If you spawn the miniboss in Slash Man's stage, then backtrack before the screen locks, this happens. I assume that the T-rex sprite is still loaded because it's not set to unload until the boss dies, so it just hangs out near other enemy sprites.

I must have clarified, I simply googled the picture to give context and specify the exact place in the game. Of course X has the upgrade on the picture, but I can guarantee you it's possible without helmet, it's a but reliant on luck though—sometimes 3 or 4 blocks break but the rest just doesn't. I haven't played the game for a long time and didn't have time to take proper screenshot, but wanted to share the trick.

>>3545212
> You can get the E tank that way as well actually.
Yep, exactly. The only tricky thing to keep in mind is that you have to climb the blocks to break them. IIRC, if you climb on the top blocks of the wall and they break, you won't be able to climb on bottom ones as they will be too low.

Ocarina of Time's longest cutscene, the light arrow cutscene in the temple of time, is triggered in a naive way. You only need to have the shadow and spirit medallions in your inventory. The same is true for the light bridge made into ganon's castle, but that one also checks for light arrows in your inventory as well. The only required sequence break to do this is very easy- entering the shadow temple without the nocturne of shadow (up on that ledge). The trigger for getting nocturne in kakariko comes from having the forest/fire/water medallions in your inventory.

The programmers assumed that if you have done shadow and spirit, it follows that you must have completed the first three temples, and the game behaves regardless as though all six sages are in the chamber of sages.

There's a glitch in the Sonic 1 version of Sonic Jam, where if you hit Robotic another time after you've already defeated him you'll accidentally reset his hit counter. I presume he must gain about 255 hitpoints because of the rollover, but I never had the patience to fully test that out.

Resident Evil :

- The Tyrant in the lab only takes about 15-20 (depending on version) Beretta bullets to kill. That's right, all this time you saved Acid round and Magnum ammo for nothing. In the PC port of the game, and only in the PC port, there is even a hidden Beretta clip near the entrance door in a dark corner (not visible on screen but press the action button and you'll pick it up).
Enemies actually have a different reaction to each weapon, rather than having a system like "pistol deals 10 hp to all enemies, colt deals 50, etc".

- The spider boss in the tunnels: there are webs blocking the exit door. First of all, you don't have to kill the boss; but more importantly, the Spider's own spit will destroy the webs on the door. You can lure the spider to destroy the webs and then exit, only takes about 3 - 4 of its spit attack.

- Know the statue that you have to push down the dining room mezzanine ? You can safely knife zombies through it. Also works in REmake.

- The corridor where dogs jump through the window; once you come back to the mansion with Hunters everywhere, that corridor will have spiders. Standing in between the pieces of furniture, and they won't be able to hit you.

- In the outdoor court, elevators are safe zones where dogs can't hit you.

there's a ton of existing stuff out there, but maybe not as deep as pannenkoek with bowser blinking cycles and sleeping and what not. wrong warp, RBA, and GIM are all mostly well understood.

this seems like a decent explanation, bit outdated way to get bottle on B but most is still relevant
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeNCZbi-E1Y

the reason I said the medallions need to be "in your inventory" is because you can get them without even entering those dungeons, by catching bugs on B with the broken goron's sword on c-right

Enemy HP/Damage for all RE2 enemies. Good reading. For some reason I think Devil May Cry uses the same system but I cannot for the life of me find a battle mechanics guide.

This actually made me hate this game. I didn't know the cane was in the game and was stuck on the puzzle inside the tree that requires having it to solve the tile puzzle. I spent about two weeks trying to do the puzzle on graph paper before determining that I'd tried it from every conceivable angel.

Then I just moved on and the very next dungeon had the cane.

Not sure how common knowledge this is, but try playing Mega Man 3 and holding down right on the player-2 D-pad. Mega Man will jump super high, and you won't die if you fall in a pit. But sometimes your HP goes to zero, and the music stops. But you're still playing, and you're now invincible. Until you pick up a health powerup, making your HP non-zero. Then you'll die if your HP goes to zero again. This also causes some graphics to glitch out, I specifically remember in the Gemini Man stage.

Now try holding up on the player-2 D-Pad and see what happens. Now trying holding up and the A-button at the same time and see what happens.

Most breakable blocks can be busted this way. You do need the boot upgrade to "kick" breakable blocks. (To the right and up of where you are now there is an example of this - a column of breakable blocks you can't headbutt)
