Has anyone ever had issues with the Rondo of Blood Win32 exe where it lets you map your input but when actually launching the game it won't take any input of any kind, even from the keyboard? I'm trying to play through it on my projector this October and this shit is driving me up the wall.

Same thing happens when I try to emulate it on Mednafen too.

I liked all the Castlevanias ive played so far, except the 64 and PS2 ones.

Character- Richter or Simon

Bosses- Death in any of the Castlevanias, he always gives me the most problems.

Enemies-Rondo

Weapons- if you mean subweapons either the cross boomerang or axes. Whip is the best weapon.

Areas- In SOTN the area with the lava moving.

Music- Personally i like Super Castlevania 4 music.

All of them are great, except 64, that was a massive mistake.

>story
OoE, Aria of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Bloodlines.

>character
All Belmonts are best, except that faggot ass Richter. If anything, Juste as the strongest (due to his various magic spells along with his whip customization) and the coolest because of the blue effects when dashing, seriously, it's totally rad. Trevor the sexiest one (no homo). Julius is /fa/ as fuck, have a sick beard, so overpowered that he had to hold his back versus Soma even though being aged and just recently recovered from amnesia, managed to deal with Dawn of Sorrow castle without the magic seal (you can't finish off the bosses unless you posess the Magic Seal, which he gave to Soma, who would have more problems than him versus said monsters). He also did that all that while being 55/56 years old, that's pretty damn old to me (not that much, but still is). Did I mention that he's so goddamn awesome that he permanently killed Dracula so hard that he had to ressurect as a good person? He's so based that his special boss theme is actually 2 musics mixed into one (Can't/Don't Wait Until Night + Heart of Fire, which also happens to me 2 favorites songs).

In terms of story, Leon, he's my favorite Belmont when it comes to personal quest and story, in terms of visual design it's Julius no fucking contest, no one can beat Foxy Grandpa.
When it comes to bad guys, Shaft! takes the cake.
>bosses
Too many, but I'm especially fond of classic Werewolf battles, Death and Gaibon and Slogra.
>weapons
The whip my nigga, for subweapons I'd say the Holy Water, mostly because of HAIDORO STOOOOOOOOOOMU.
>areas
Now this is tricky, I have a lot of favorite areas and the most recurrent ones might be the Clocktowers and all the garden levels, but I especially love the phantom ship from Rondo/Dracula X, Orlock's Quarters, The Chapel and the Coliseum from SoTN and I guess the entirety of LoI though it's not retro.
>music
Too many to list but here's my top 10 in no particular order:

Aquarius
Heart of Fire(AoS version)
Theme of Simon Belmont(SC4)
Dance of Pales

Order of Ecclesia

Cross Fear(Dracula X remix)
Vampire Killer in all its iterations

>bosses
Paula Abghoul and Fred Askare is one of my absolute favorites boss fights in Castlevania. Some others I also really enjoy are Werewolf in Rondo and She-wolf in X68K, Princess of Moss, and of course Death fights, most of them.
>weapons
Whip. Sub-weapon, depends on the situation, I'll be unoritinal and say cross.
>areas
I like the pretty ones, like the ball room from IV (which also works as a castle entrance stage), Versailles from Bloodlines, the doll house from X68K. I like the sort of decadent aristocracy vibe, fits Castlevania pretty well. Of course I also like most of the other areas like forests, dungeons, clocktoers, but elegant, castle-like rooms are my favorites. I also love the chapel from Rondo and the chapel from SOTN.

Yeah, SotN is a good game. It's not linear, has some great bosses, good story and is pretty big. But is also far too easy. I mean, if you get the areas in 'wrong' order, then the difficulty scales like a pile of shit; some bosses will be challenging, which is good, but there's something wrong with that feeling after finally finding that spooky Death's Lair and then defeating Death in 20 seconds on the first try...

I like the stories of LoS1 and Mirror of Fate. They're probably the best stories in Castlevania, but the standards weren't very high since Lords of Shadow is the only game to even go so far as pretend it cared about narrative. LoS2 is a disaster in every way.

>replaying Super Castlevania IV
Man, it's kind of boring. It feels more like a tech demo for mode 7.

The whip really does make everything else mostly useless. It doesn't really have that "Castlevania" spirit in the level design. Everything feels less like a challenge and more like it was just slapped on. You either plow through everything or shit is placed in the most bullshit ways, behind/obscured by scenery, etc. Most of the music is pretty forgettable too aside from Simon's Theme and the remixes of the big three. The art, while big and detailed, just seems kind of dull.

Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad game. It's just not as good as I remember it being. I think Rondo kicks the everliving shit out of it as far as feeling like the "next generation" of Castlevania after the original and III.
