Retarded hings mappers should stop doing:

- Fluids being randomly hurting or non hurting. One map green shit hurts, next map it's just like water. Retarded fucking bullshit. Have some hint at least you fuckos.

- Pain elementals when you don't have ssg, plazma or chaingun.

- No monsters above demons or chaingunners as if wad is trying to be the godlike TNT:E

- Hoards of revenants to be shot from rl or circle'n'ssged

- Fucking small objects around when you're fighting arch-ville, cyberdemon, mastermind or a bunch of revenants - like bushes. Retarded fucking shit. Whoever does this must feel really clever, and special. Autistic cocksuckers.

- Doom 2 city skyboxes - the ugliest and most nausiating fucking
things in existance before big handed square-jawed transes became a thing. It's literally 5x5 pixels of fire, smoke and cement stretched two hundred times.

- Pits you can't get out from.

- Places where you can't see enemies high above and they just hit-scan you.

- Lifts that drop you right to hit-scanners so you immediately get shot.

Some maps, official and unofficial, have secret tags accidentally applied to unreachable sectors. It would render those maps unfinishable.

Also, why would you want this? Secrets are usually intended as hidden rooms/items that are there to reward observant players who explore off the main path. Making them required kinda defeats that purpose.
Stuff like Eternal Doom do have secrets with a different purpose, such as using them in puzzles, but by that point, the map is already requiring you to find the secrets, rendering this mod idea redundant.

I wish D4D should implement Doom 4's temporary berserker powerup already. The regular Doom berserker pack is so fucking broken in D4D it's not even funny. The punches are WAAAAY more powerful than the vanilla berserk fists, and enemies drop shit loads of health when you kill them with berserk fists. You can cheese high tier enemies too(Even fucking cyberdemons) if you have holo grenades

IMO, determining whether a map is a slaughtermap just from the total monsters is misguided. For example, The maps in Vela Pax contain thousands each, but they're actually just really big intricate maps with standard gameplay. And then theres Plutonia's Go 2 It, often seen as the map that popularized the style, only has just over 200 enemies.

I'm typically a person who complains a lot about the presence of too many monsters at once, I didn't find Bloodstain to get particularly heavy with monsters until the very late levels, but even then, Bloodstain is very much designed to give you a lot of cover to use, so it's not like there aren't good ways to deal with this most of the time.

delays are somewhat standard for community map projects, so it's not really surprising. i think tnt2 is on its second year of development.
for a lot of zdoomers or first-timers, though, it's probably a shock to have a small delay like this.

Honestly, making the actual enemy itself would be relatively easy.
The problem is the mapping portion, since I've been so burnt on GZDoombuilder it's not even funny. Like 90% of the delay can be blamed on the usual mapping troubles--open GZDB, make an area, decide it's shit, delete it and then down a bottle.

If anyone is looking for more pure Wolf3D map sets that can be played with ECWolf, I recommend Wolfbel2. It's a fast-paced map set with maps that are spacious and easy to navigate but filled with a high density of enemies. The maps are easy to navigate, but they're not as simple as they look; there's plenty of ways enemies can flank the player, and there are often mixups between enemies that go after the player upon hearing him fire his weapons and enemies that camp and wait. You'll usually be fighting many enemies at a time, and it's advisable to stay on the move to avoid being attacked in multiple directions at once and to be able to continuously pick up ammo drops. It's a good contrast to the Acktung map sets included in the starter pack which has maps that are usually pretty cramped, maze-y and drag on for too long.

Yes, however if you do that on a first playthrough, don't do it above skill3.
For you to survive pitchfork start on the skills above 3, the game asks you to know the game already, and to know some secrets.

Honestly I think it's fair, considering people who are going to do that on skill 4 (or 5...) will already have played the game.
You need to learn how to play the game. Use the right weapon, and even the right firing mode, depending on your situation and enemies. Blood doesn't play like Doom or DN3D.

Episode 1 is however the hardest. The fourth map is the hardest in the game to pitchfork start.

Add the 'inventory' inheritance to the 'frag_flash' actor on line 867 in the file actordefs/weapons/fraggren.txt. You can open the archive with 7zip and edit the file directly with notepad instead of using SLADE if you don't have it

this one is an E2-style puzzle map. we first teleport to a platform on a lake of slime. the single imp on the ledge can be pistolled, then we are presented with the problem that there is no way out. it turns out you have to shoot one of the walls - but which, they are all the same. this gets us into some cramped stone passages lit nicely by lamps, which end in apparently empty rooms. you may hear doors open and lifts lower as you traverse the tunnels. pay attention, it's one way out. another way is humping every wall you see. it's that kind of puzzle map.

if you are lucky you may find a green stone temple, leading to a seemingly endless pillared passage, or perhaps a large warehouse. both of these open to a yard, where at the opposite side is a wide staircase leading to that first ledge.

at this point a door will open on the far side of the slime, and the reason for the map name is revealed as 70+ imps teleport all over the map.

three teleporters will also have opened in the map itself. two just shortcut the pillar passageway but a third will take you to, of all places, the monster teleporter holding area. you may now teleport yourself around the map and clean it out if you are so inclined.

but the exit? one must notice that one of the holding area teleporters is faulty, not working until you step back off it. at first i thought this was a bug but it actually hides yet another secret door and a computer map. thus the location of the exit, and any other shortcuts yet to be found, are revealed.

note: like the Lemmings level "Lost Something?", the puzzle is purely informational. once the exit is discovered - no keys, no switches, you can go straight to it. if not - prepare yourself for a lot of searching.

note2: kills/items/secrets are all powers of two. coincidence, or the author is a nerd?

i like pl2. it has some really nice maps, well interconnected layouts with long lines of sight, all that kind of good stuff.

it does have some surprising issues, especially after an extremely long development time and a complete team change, a few maps have suboptimal monster teleporters, even outright not working properly for example, showing an uncharacteristic lack of playtesting.

I have a small design document, but it's not really terribly large or in-depth.
I find a lot of design goes best if there's a lot of improvisational room--plans blow up a lot, stuff that seems good on paper is kind of shitty in execution, and people butt heads about the best way to do things.

I generally tend to go with an outline of what I want to do, how things will work, how to make it work, what would be feasible to do, what would be total pipe dream to do, a vague estimate of what it would take to do it all, etc, etc, and then from there I hit the road and get to it.

I'm actually working on one right now. Its wave based with a buying system. Each wave on each level has a timer for when the next wave comes. You can pay money to stop the waves and then reactivate when you're ready. Also have plans for a power up storage system where you can buy a power up and activate it when you want.

Been toying with another feature; chip damage.

Now it's not unknown in dark souls that not all shields were created equal. This is also true in this mod.

I've made it so certain shields won't protect you 100% from incoming damage, for example a battered plank shield wouldn't cover your ass nearly as effectively as a heavy iron shield. Another neat feature I've added is certain shiels being resistant or less resistant to certain attacks. A wood shield isn't going to defend against fireballs well, much like the aformentioned iron shield wouldn't do so great against an electric based attack.

Right now there aren't actually any new shields because, well, I suck at making graphics and I'd really appreciate it if someone could make some shield graphics, one frame is enough really. I'll post a template and example in the next post.

All right so here's the dealio, I can't sprite for shit. I can't remember who made the original shield sprite (pictured), but I know the edit was done by blox (I think).

What I'd like is a couple more shields drawn up. One similar to the Plank Shield from Dark souls - a few boards of wood nailed together, would provide minimal defense, but would be defense nevertheless. The other would be a huge hunk of iron, a massively heavy shield like the Black Iron Greatshield from Dark Souls.

Attached is the shield graphic that I'm using, and the arm template to use if you wanna make something. Thanks if you do, it would be a massive help.

hard to say. i usually pistol start maps, i've maxed all of dtwid that way. e3m8 would be a lot easier with a bfg though. it's set up so the spider is very awkward to aim at, and tricky to hide from, along with a bunch of other hazards. having a bfg to take it out in only a few shots would be very handy, but i've done it without one.

A non-violent multiplayer mod where you hang out in a friends large-ish basement and play nintendo, darts, pool, and the server saves the high scores. There are other interactive things around too. Light switches, a toilet, a bb gun for shooting tin cans, an RC car... Just a fuck around and do nothing mod for multiplayer.

Yeah. I ran a depth pass on a 3D model and posterized the result to make the masks to break up the textures.

This might look nice for inwardly carved lettering or something, but right now I can't think of a good use for it.

The issue really is at higher resolutions, but the sheets are still noticeable at lower res too sometimes. Like I said it'll probably have some application down the line, but in this instance it's just not quite there imo.

I've tried them mixed in with regulars DOOM enemies and it really adds to the gameplay variety of these maps, and I'm going to try a version of the custom monsters on their own. I think the trick is having every layer get smaller and smaller. The points that don't look right are just the ones where it stays the same from layer to layer... It's like Berzerk, but you have multiple characters and various types of bots after you, part of the enemy design is giving them distinct robot voices, so you end up with trash enemies sounding like daleks, but minibosses and beyond that all sound like Wizard of Wor, Evil Otto and Sinistar so you can shit yourself when they appear.
