You guys have been a great help to me, thank you.
Let me ask, are there any hacks for either Diddy Kong racing or Mario Kart 64? I've never seen one, but I'm not really that in the loop.
Also, where do I go to become in the loop about particular romhacks or modding communities? Only mod community I'm involved in is Smash Bros, and they are they're own community.

>> No.3523850

>>3523760
I've never heard of hacks for either of those games, and romhacking.net doesn't have any. The only Mario Kart games with more than a few hacks I've seen are Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart Wii, with a few sparse custom tracks for Mario Kart DS and 7.

As to communities, Pokécommunity and Skeetendo are alright for Pokémon hacks (the latter only deals with Gen 1 and 2, making it more /vr/-friendly), and SMWCentral does Mario hacks, mostly SMW as you could guess.

Yeah I'm playing TactHack here, and I'm at this point where the Tactician triggers a rockslide. In the scene after Mr. Moustache yells BY THE GODS then runs off screen and then the game crashes to black screen. Skipping the scene just takes it directly to the black screen. I believe it was Chapter 13?

Yeah how do I avoid the crash or what have you? I'm using Visual Boy Advance. Progressing past this just makes the screen fade to black and nothing else happens.

I programmed a NES Zelda 2 music "editor",
although it looks more like a hex editor at this point.

What is a good music file format(like midi?) for importing music into zelda 2 format?

I've looked at a program called "FamiTracker" which I hoped would be good to use to create the music but I'm not sure exactly what to do.

Sorry for being a fucking weenie, but I'm just getting into playing ROM hacks for the first time and I'm running into some issues.

I'm trying to play SMW: Call of Cthulhu, I've patched a clean ROM with the .ips, but no matter what emulator I use it just leads me to a black screen with no audio or anything. I've tried about 6 different emulators at this point and I've patched a few different ROMs thinking maybe the others weren't clean, still with no results. I even tried renaming the ROM to match the .ips and nothing.

Am I doing something wrong or missing a step?
I don't really understand why its impossible to find pre-patched ROMs instead of just the .ips file, but I guess I'll have to learn how to do this some day anyway.

Anybody want to assist in finding a Game Genie code for Pokemon Blue?

Here's where I'm at so far:

Pokemon Always Stays in the Ball
01431ED1

Address: D113
Value 43

The pokemon will always be caught successfully.

Problem:
This value is share by other functions. It must be turned off before selecting another action, like attack, or the game will freeze.

What I would really like is to locate the appropriate opcode, if possible, to always catch successfully without interfering with other parts of the game.

You can get set an access breakpoint at D11E and get an idea of where how forks for successful catches vs failed catches.

Sure you can just get master balls, but this is a more challenging code to discover and it always fun to find new codes.

>> No.3547186

>>3523192
Yeah. Die to the continue screen and either save state or, if you have a debugger/cheat finder, search for the value of continues you have.

Resume game and use a continue. If using a debugger/cheat finder, you can probably just search for the new value among the old results and narrow it down to the exact address.

If not using a debugger, die to the continue screen again and create a second save state. You should have two save states that are very similar except for the number of continues. Compare diff and it really shouldn't be difficult to find.

It's easy if the filesize is relatively the same. I've replaced STR files with japanese counterparts and added and reencoded with subtitles. As long as the resulting filesize is similar, no problem. It'; a matter of replacing files on CDmage or a similar program, and maybe expand the possible size as much as the TOC allows you (which isnt that much more). If it is a lot bigger, then you need to research a way of rebuilding the CD and TOC without breaking the game.
