None.

That's the answer you were looking for, right?

Why would you assume that?

Ms. Pacman: Better than the original Pacman in every way possible. Is actually faithful to the arcade original.

Jr. Pacman: Better than even Ms. Pacman on a technical level, with mazes that scroll up an down because of how huge they are. EXTREMELY difficult, however.

Winter Games: Features an ALMOST on-key rendition of the Olympic theme, which is impressive for an Atari 2600. Also great graphics.

Kaboom!: Catch all the bombs that the mad bomber throws at you. Deceptively simple, yet incredibly intense and fun.

Stargate/Defender II: A much more faithful port of Defender than the original Defender for the 2600.

Wizard of Wor. Shoot dragons in a maze. Graphics flicker badly, but the gameplay is extremely fun. Just be sure to use controller port 2 for the single-player mode.

Warlords: One of the best multiplayer games on the system. Think of it as 4-player breakout, except each player has to defend their "castle" from the ball. It would be THE best multiplayer game on the 2600 if it wasn't for...

Medieval Mayhem: A homebrew game often described as "Warlords on Steroids". Better graphics, multiple balls, much better enemy AI, and other additional gameplay tweaks.

He shouldn't have assumed that, but he's right. Atari 2600 games are either inferior arcade ports, clones of inferior arcade ports, or games that are bad examples of their genre (why play River Raid when you can play any other shmup?)

>> No.3520870

>>3520847
Because River Raid is an excellent game, and fairly unique among shooting games. Up and down speed up/slown down the scrolling rather than moving the plane up and down the screen. It even has environmental hazards, like Gradius or Salamander

Yars' Revenge becomes very challenging once the missile starts moving faster. Managing trying to avoid the missile while aiming the cannon is difficult.

You can still play retro games while admitting that games can age. And nothing has aged as badly as the 1977 console with 2 sprites to go around and 1 fire button.

>> No.3520964

Atari 2600 games were fun in the past and they're fun now. Don't dismiss them as dated because they don't meet your personal standards.

>> No.3521024

>>3520964

They're only fun if you stopped playing video games in 1990.

It's not my personal standards, it's a matter of being outclassed. For every Atari 2600 game there's a later game that did everything better.

So you'd rather play Adventure than Zelda? You'd rather play Enduro or Pole Position than Out Run? Do you think Dragonstomper is better than Dragon Quest?

There's a ton of homebrew games for the 2600, but while they play nice, I'm not sure if they're worth $20.

>> No.3521893

>>3521868
Well, if you buy from AtariAge, that $20 actually goes toward the developer and publisher, unlike old used games.

>> No.3522197

Here's a radical concept, I enjoy playing Enduro, Pole Position AND OutRun. OutRun is definitely the best game of those three, but that doesn't make the other two not fun. By your logic, you should just play Forza and leave everything else behind.
