What are some action RPGs that don't have hack and slash gameplay? I'm kinda tired of mashing buttons.

Also I'm so hungry I can't even move :C I want to heat something up but it's 4 in the morning and my roomies will get pissed.

If you want something in between, try the Mario RPGs.

I mean something that isn't hack and slash, but rely more on special skills or other weapons maybe. And enemies that you can take out with a certain number of hits like zelda, instead of draining their hp.
>Mario RPGs
are there any more games like those?

You don't want to hack and slash yet you want an rpg. Shit, man, make up your mind! And heat your damn food!

Ys Books 1 & 2 for the TurboGrafx (and 4 for PC-Engine) primarily has you just bumping into enemies, no buttons needed ... also I think they are pretty good action RPGs

2 adds fireballs, but you can just switch on the turbo if you don't want to mash buttons.

Not retro, but you might want to check out The Last Story for Wii. All you have to do is walk up to an enemy for auto-attacks, freeing up that button for more tactical stuff like directing party members.

You're confusing The Last Story with Xenoblade. TLS is indeed tactical but you still have to press the button to attack. So yeah, Xenoblade is the one to go for.

This is still a thing? Autofire/Turbo has existed for decades now.
