Did you beat Plok?

I've only made it as far as the fight with Grandpappy Plok vs. all three Bobbins Bros, where I promptly got my ass kicked. I never bothered with the warps.

I had the game for 15 years, before I lost it in a fire.

I never even made it to the Fleapit.

You're not that anon who keeps calling it better than Yoshi's Island and DKC, right?

>> No.3515137

I should. For that guy doing the Plok 3D game.

>> No.3515139

I absolutely love the game and think it has the best music of any platformer. Follin brothers are gods.

I'd venture to say that the music is the only interesting thing about this game. Nobody would be talking about Plok on the internet and we wouldn't be having this thread right now if the music was half as generic as the game itself.

>>3515137

As the dev of that thing: don't. The 16 bit era had so brilliant platformers that playing also-rans like Plok is a waste of your time.

At the very least, beg this guy into continuing work on his own fangame. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzELBO_3HzE

>>3515146

This. There's a reason why we only talk about Plok's music, or Zero Wing's opening, or the box art for Phalanx.

No but I'm trying to do that someday. Gameplay and level design is actually well done. Music is the best, I agree with >>3515139 and >>3515146

The gameplay is far from well-done. The platforming and physics are rudimentary compared to the likes of Mario and Sonic. Your combat abilities are limited and throwing limbs feels weak and lacking in "juice". Your power-ups tend to make the game harder instead of easier. The camera is too zoomed-in. The level design is either generic (Cotton Island, Legacy Island), tedious and full of backtracking (Akrillic), or straight up unfair (Fleapit). Enemies do nothing but hop up and down.

This looks really good for a fan project.

No but it's a better platformer than I expected

Worst $20 I ever spent. Don't let the music links fool you.

Have some more self-respect, man. Your game's pretty great too.

>> No.3515346

Does the game really get harder after Cotton Island? I mean insanely difficult.

why the fuck would i play some amerishit game?

The game will kick ass a lot when the flea search levels start. It's only made worse with how the game deals with continues.

>> No.3515707

Besides becoming pretty difficult, this game also was long as fuck and had no passwords. I only ever made it midway through, until creepy forest level, and that's when I played on easy.

The worst part is that you can unintentionally get screwed over by continues on Child's Play, because getting one just before a skipped boss will un-skip it. Really easy to do with the floating magician boss, since the previous level hands out tokens like candy.

If the game's kicking your ass, I'd advise you to not use warp zones. Use Cotton Island/Garlen Beach/Sleepy Dale to rack up your lives. Do play the "shell games", though. Or, you know, play a better game.

Also, while the shell games will warp you if you get every shell, this is so difficult in practice that they're only good for extra shells.

Yep. On a cartridge. Twice.

>> No.3516456

Doing the whole Rayman thing but actually putting emphasis on it (and before Rayman) is interesting, but the music is still the best thing about this stupidly hard game. The difficulty is really only manageable on "Child's Play" even in the earliest levels, and even then, there's no saves or even a password system.

It's from the webm thread from last week, I saved almost everything from it.

>>3516456

The thing is, it didn't make use of the limb gimmick at all outside of maybe Creepy Crag. In the Fleapit levels and the final boss, you couldn't even use your limbs. The rest of the time, it was just a really shitty short-range weapon.

With the exception of Yoshi's Island (which is basically a better version of Plok), of the commercially and critically successful games on the SNES, like DKC and SMW, had almost no gimmicks. They had solid platforming and a reasonable difficulty curve, and they would have been even better if they removed their own gimmicks, like SMW's cape. Most of us want craftsmanship, not ambition.

>> No.3517554

desu I haven't beaten any game without saving

>> No.3519627

The only reason it gets any attention at the time is because people love to say how great semi-obscure games are because they think it makes them look cool or something
