Just read the manual. They're all designed to be friendly for first time players. You will have no trouble.

Then you asked the wrong question in your OP. It doesn't matter. Just play whatever one jumps out or looks neat to you.

RPGs (and to a lesser extend) are mixture of different aspects: combat, exploration, dialogue, character building. If you want to get into FF or any other jrpg, you have to accept certain areas are slower than others.

Once i have said that, i think the most straighforward FF is IV, because you are not required to understand classes or skills. Try it.

>>3512901
IV is beginner friendly, simple and the first one that used ATB so it can give you an idea how the next few games play
no character customization in the SNES and PSP version but that might be a good thing for a newbie
I'd advise setting the battle speed to 1 (the fastest setting) and in Active mode

If you've never played a JRPG before, I'd wait on Final Fantasy. Perhaps start with either EarthBound or Chrono Trigger. EarthBound for a light story and a rather straightforward experience, Chrono Trigger for a shorter and non-grind-intensive experience. If your set on starting with an FF game, I'd say you ought to start off with 4 or 5.

IV > VI > V > VII > IX > VIII then I/II/III and XII if you want. There you go. Now you've played through all of the Final Fantasies! Now play Tactics and Tactics Ogre.

Don't play, they are trash.

>> No.3514768

Start with 1 because if you can beat 1 then you're capable of taking on the rest of them.

Also 1 is the classic and should be required playing if you've played any of the other ones.

4, 5 and 6 were available on ps1

Enemy takes two turns every time you try to navigate to the magic menu and press back to cast cure on whole party
>Sometimes misclick and cast Pray instead

Did the lack of an NA release back in the day really hurt V's legacy? Everyone seems to put it as a sidenote even though it's battle system and boss battles are way more interesting than IV and VI

While starting with the first game in a series is usually a good idea, it's not a good idea when it comes to JRPGs this old. JRPGs from this era are archaic as all fuck and super grindy too. You're just gonna leave someone with a bad taste in their mouth by introducing them to the series with FF1, even if they play one of the remakes.

I'd say, honestly, you'd want to start with the SNES or PSX games, they're really the high points of the series and you don't need to deal with the grindyness and other 'quirks' of NES era JRPGs at first. 4 is probably a good start, being the first SNES game, but it still retains some of that grindyness (depending on which version you play) and overally there's basically nothing in the way of character customisation. Really you'd want to start with 5 or 6 (and make sure you play the GBA version for the enhanced translation, especially with 5). If you wanna start with one of the PSX games, play 7 or 9. 9, in particular, is a good introduction to the series because of all the callbacks to the earlier games and it's translation is better than 7's to boot.

the only time I thought the speed was too much was when I fought those door enemies in the sealed cave
some of the optional bosses also gave me a hard time (plague)

but maaaan escaping from battles in ATB is a breeze
hard to go back to "failed to run" and watching every enemy do his attack

Step by Step:
>1. Take the game
>2. Connect your console to the TV
>3. Put the game into the console
>4. Turn your TV to the Channel you connected the console to
>5. Connect at least one controller to the console
>6. Push the power button on the console

At this point it gets a bit harder, sometimes there is an intro, don't be afraid the game did not start yet. Pressing the start button helps most of the time. You will want to begin a new game, and type in a name for the protagonist. From this point on you must challenge it on your own, best of luck to you.

Secret Pro Tech Tips:
>Under menu you can save your game
>To progress in the game you will be in need of items
>If the game is too loud use the remote control for your TV and push the 'volume down' button

Please report back if everything worked out ok
