been waiting for a mastersystem thread to ask this,
just recently picked up a master system controller and lightgun,
powerbase converters a bit too pricey for me,
how do those repro ones hold up and are they region locked?
feel free to recommend me some phazer games too if you want.

Psycho Fox
Kenseiden
Alex Kidd in Miracle/Shinobi World
Golden Axe Warrior
Phantasy Star (w/SMS Power fan patch, using Japanese version for FM-synth music)
Wonder Boy in Monster Land (or try arcade) + III: Dragon's Trap
Maze Walker 3D (play SEGA 3D Classics Collection version if you have that)
Psychic World (maybe try MSX2 version, some differences for better or worse)
Sonic the Hedgehog

As for SG-1000 games, try Compile's shooter Gulkave.

If you've already got a mega drive just get an everdrive. It will play sms games just like a power converter would as well as all the home brew/translations you want

if a power base converter is out of his price range what makes you thing he can afford one of those?

That's the game that was retooled into some animu game on Mega Drive which was in turn retooled into Decap Attack right? Is it worth playing if I've already played a ton of Decap Attack?

Both libraries are so small that you can just sort through them pretty quickly. A lot of the SMS library is shared with GameGear as well with one version always being better than the other, so you're essentially knocking three systems off your backlog.

I went through it earlier this year and picked out everything I thought was worth playing. I got 39 SG-1000 games, 74 SMS-original (or Game Gear upgrades) games, and 51 SMS games that are ports from other platforms.

Not sure if the 3d glasses work on modern tvs or the lightgun either for that matter, but Missile Defense 3d was great game and one of the more overlooked gems on the system.

The 3d glasses were an amazing peripheral at the time and its shame so very few people got to experience them

Definitely you should. It's vastly different, imo.
Especially as it has weird jump physics, like you got to really get going to jump any distance. This sounds miserable but is actually fun, as it gives you a kind of momentum/inertia to work with, kind of like a reversal of how SMB1 is.
