Now that you're older, do you think you would understand every obscure pop culture gex reference?

No

Partly.

I still don't know who or what the fuck Rodah is, also was SNL really that terrible back then?

I watch MST3K. Any pop references Gex make are small-time compared to that.

>> No.3509004

did it have any Twin peaks reference?

Yes.

I was an adult when Gex came out and I got every single reference then.

>> No.3510418

Gex is literally an autistic proto-NEET. It's literally stated that outside of the games themselves he never goes outside, has no job, and just sits in his house watching TV, living off the inheritance left for him by his dead rich uncle(?) and afraid to go outside. And he spends the entirety of the games themselves spewing TV references like an autist who's neurologically incapable of not sperging about whatever it is that they're obsessed with.

Take Gex, replace all the TV references with anime references, and replace the backstory details about him watching TV non-stop with watching untranslated anime non-stop, and just imagine for a second how aggressively cringe it would be. The Geico gecko's severely autistic NEET American cousin. I bet he'd browse 4chan if he were real.

No matter when you start watching, SNL is great for the first year or two then starts to feel stale. Soon it all feels the same and you come to the conclusion that the show went to shit. You could start in the 70's, 80's, 90's or 00's and the experience is always the same though.

This Old House is a badass home improvement programs where they show you how to install kitchen cabinets or a bdsm rig in your daughter's bedroom

Yeah, this. Van down by the river had me dying when I first saw it, after watching snl awhile I saw it again and didn't even crack a smile, and because of that you get a bunch of really good one liners, but not back to back, maybe once a skit. It was the prime era for a lot of comedians. It always tries to be too clever, to surreal, or too satirical.

Tom Servo is so jealous right now.

I watched Getralife, some of those references are fucking obscure and just plain weird, I understood most and those that I didn't were just plain strange sounding.

I would understand them.

But I won't laugh at them.
