I grew up with the GameCube and original Xbox. I will say it's not very common to see people my age interested in retro games, with that said we should encourage younger players. Yea, I just recently accquired a PS3, cause last gen is always cheapest gen, so best time so start collecting 360 and PS3 is now.
Also: Slim is teh sex.

OP, it depends on what you like.
You like early polygons, go with Playstation, Saturn or N64, you like Sprites go with Genesis or SNES, you like it all oldschool go with Atari 2600, you want to be hip go with nes or master system, you want to be obscure go with 3DO, Neo Geo or 32X.
