Are you kidding me? Are N64s that expensive that some scam website is lying that it's $65? Fuck the retro market. This is ridiculous.

>> No.3504502

>>3504492
$65 is about average price or slightly above for an N64

>> No.3504505

>>3504492
You seriously think a mint n64 with all the hookups and controller and 2 games isn't worth that much?

>> No.3504639

You seriously think it is?

>> No.3504642

The retro market is insane. An N64 around where I live is $60 min pretty much. I remember when they were like $20 when I was younger.

Sellers had to drive up the price of the console because of all the thieves using flash carts.

It's exactly how it works you fucking mong. Resellers had to drive up console prices to make up their loss of the games not selling because thieving lil shits like YOU are so fucking cheap you'd rather break the law than help out local business.

>> No.3504831

>>3504823
I don't think there are enough people buying flashcarts to cause a drastic increase of the pricing of consoles. Retro game stores aren't saving their business by increasing the price of their systems.

>>3504642
>>3504492
Its almost like people aren't flooding the market with used N64s in order to put a few dollars towards their Playstation 2 purchase anymore!

>> No.3504856

>>3504831
Emulation fags are also causing prices to skyrocket. All the fucking retro hipsters insist on owning copies of Earthbound and shit, so their price rises due to demand for popular games, but unpopular game prices also skyrocket because inventory is not moving.

>> No.3504863

>>3504823
The only people that users of flashcarts are "stealing" from are those who made the games, not sell them. Also, if what you were saying was correct, then game prices relative to the consoles would be less than they were back in the day, which they aren't. Prices in the retro game market are set to what is most profitable due to the laws of supply and demand and how capitalism works, so the idea that prices would increase in one area of a market due to a decrease in demand in another is ridiculous.

>> No.3504865

So what I'm getting from this thread is: buying flashcarts is driving up the prices of retro vidya, and buying retro vidya is driving up the prices of retro vidya

You're a fucking idiot. Price inflation has been happening long before flash carts became prevalent. Price inflation is happening because increased demand for something that is out of production and in limited supply.

I say this as someone who works at a mom and pop game store. Most of the people who play games on flash carts still buy games. I regularly and openly talk to them about developments with flash carts. You quite literally have no fucking idea what you're talking about and wouldn't be able to tell your head from your ass because of how fucking retarded you are, mong.

>> No.3504874

>>3504856
It's possible that emulation can open more people up to the idea of retro games, but arguably it could also decrease the price, as those who may have wanted the real game now have an alternative.

>> No.3504904

It's all a matter of supply and demand, right? The reason why games are so expensive is because people are still willing to pay for them. The only way for prices to go down is for demand to decrease. (Unless supply increases, though that's not possible unless someone finds a huge stache of old games or companies start making re-releases) In some sense, we're the problem that we constantly complain about.

But, remember, we live in a world where all the normalfags think that their copy of Super Mario Bros/ Duck Hunt is valuable, so the fact that it doesn't sell doesn't make them think, "Oh, my game is priced too high". Instead, the think "Oh, I just gotta wait for the right sucker to buy it." And sure enough, you'd be surprised at how many fags will pay 10+ dollars for a game that was bundled with almost EVERY NES.

Remember the insanity with those Disney VHS tapes? Literally no one was buying them, so some sellers began listing the tapes at $20,000 fucking dollars just to see what would happen. And guess what? Some degenerate richfag bought one for the full asking price of $20,000. And that was the accepted value for a while, until finally the buyers said, "Hey, this is retarded. Who would ever pay that much for a VHS tape that was mass produced?" And then the price went back down to $1.40.

Same with retro vidya. Except that the buyers have not taken a stand yet.

>> No.3505029

>>3505023
Hasn't the price been artificially increased in the past as well? One eBay seller would buy every single listing and sell them back for way more and that kind of thing?

>> No.3505045

>>3504505

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

People will *absolutely* pay $65 for an N64 if it means they can get it today and play some retro goldeneye at the party they have coming up this weekend.

You're not competing with collectors here. Collectors don't pay that kind of money for a N64. You're competing with normals that are a bit drunk on ebay and buying an N64 seems like a good idea at the time... $65 isn't that bad in that case.

>> No.3505052

>>3505029
Yeah, I heard about a seller doing that with a bunch of Earthbound copies on eBay. And it even happens in brick-and-mortar stores. I used to live by a thrift store that was located right next to a retro game store, and often I'd see employees from the game store go over to the thrift store and walk out with a cart of boxes, probably were buying out all their video games from under the table, before they were even put out for sale. Pretty sure they had made a deal with them. Once I saw a copy of Final Fantasy 3 sitting on top of a box behind the counter, and when I asked about it, they said it wasn't for sale. Not hard to fill in the blanks on what had happened. At least I had my choice of any PS2 sports game that I would ever want, cause that was all the thrift store ever had after the resellers cleaned it out.

Fellow San Diegan here, can confirm the large amount of TJ resellers at both swap meets and plaguing OfferUp/CL. Pic related

What's truly sad though is that if you were to try and start a discussion with these people, they wouldn't know anything about a game besides it's "price".
