Why not? Emulation is 100% with 8-bit stuff but if you like the system and you want one, get one.

Do you though? The 30 games it comes with would have cost you far more than the msrp so even if you do later you won't be out anything - unless you really want to play them in real 240p on a CRT but that's usually kind of a nostalgia thing to do, or extreme hipsterism.

What do you mean by feel? As someone who grew up with one of those, you'll be adding the feeling of physically holding a controller in your hands but other than that it will be the same as you playing them now.

You could get an 80's CRT, hook it all up in a room void of other new contraptions and then play it and pretend you were a child of another era. But it would be the same as dressing in Victorian garb and watching a zoetrope hoping to be amazed.

coming from someone who bought one before the rising prices, I had this feeling of whether or not it was worth buying, but I was into AVGN and saw one with all the worse controllers and 5 games for $15, I got super lucky as the best game from that lot were Super Mario/Duck Hunt, Captain Skyhawk, and Battle Toads. Ovwr the years I've purchased a lot more games, I have like 70+, but mind you a majority of them have no boxes and cost me from $5-$15~ and I'm picky about how much I pay for an NES game so unless I REALLY want a physical copy, I try to pay no more than $15, and even then I dont think I ever paid that much, maybe as much as $13~ which comes close. Personally, I've grown to love the system and have some favorites like Faxanadu, The Guardian Legend, Double Dragon 2, Super C, and much more. Such a great system, but the climate for NES is still shit in terms of pricing, unless you got the cash I'd say don't bother.

>Yeah, holding a controller, putting cartridges in

I do highly recommend a controller for the tactile feedback and not having your fingers cover the screen. But I don't have much good to say about physical carts and hardware. If for some reason you really like that idea, then of course go for it but I honestly don't think you're missing out on anything great.

But I'm one of those people with no nostalgia for old hardware, I just like the games and only keep physically what I can't emulate well.

It's an expensive mod no matter which console you do it to. Unless you buy a Sharp Famicom Titler.

>> No.3492045

Frankly, prices on most things are still far cheaper than they were when they were new. Just not dirt cheap like they were when almost no one cared. You're still in the relatively early days of video game collecting. This isn't some unnatural swell in the market, it's the natural effect of collector's items.

Go for it if you want OP. Just don't be one of those people who pays top dollar for an NES, buys 5 games and then sells it all back for a third of what you paid six months later.

Emulate (with a controller) and if you like it enough and still want to dive in, then go nuts. There's something about playing on the original hardware that emulation can never truly replicate, and in my opinion that's worth maintaining a console and hunting down carts.

There's no reason to get an NES or an SNES because emulation for them covers all bases

Golvellius: Valley of Doom
Master of Darkness (Euro only I think)
Phantasy Star
Power Strike II

Wonder Boy in Monster Land
Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap
Zillion

The Sonic titles, although they aren't as good as the genesis ones

Do a little research on how its done and buy a wii. You can mod very easily to load several different emulators. They can be found for less than an actual nes and you will have many more games at your disposal. Plus if you decide nes is not your thing you will have wii/snes/sega/atari etc. games and youyou are bound to find something worth the $30 to $80 you spent on it.

>> No.3495156

Try with a controller on an emulator.

Don't waste money on shit you don't need.
