Thinking of buying one soon. I hear that you should replace all the capacitors in it. Any other essential mods, such as a new screen, better backlight, etc?

Recommend games too.

Just get a Master System instead.

you only need to replace caps if the audio or screen is wonky or weak. Both mine and my gf's still work great and they were bought new and never opened.

Then why get a Game Gear?

a belt clip battery pack with a nicd rc battery is great, that combined with a hhl led backlight mod will give you 8+ hours run time. mine has the original backlight and I get 4+ hours on the modded pack. and 2 or so on rechargeable AA's

Not all SMS games are on GG.

>>3484347
Don't all GG's caps eventually cause this because of the caps they put in it?

I played Halley Wars on an emulator last night and experienced something weird with the controls. If you're moving up-left and then switch to moving left, the ship keeps going up-left. You have to take your finger off the d-pad and then press left to stop the diagonal motion. Is this something that's part of the game, or am I experiencing a bug of some sort?

yes, that is my next mod but I need a proper soldering station and to brush up on my skills.

That's what they say, again ours work fine.Don't store it with batteries in it.

It goes through batteries really quickly, so a rechargeable battery mod would be really useful.

Even recapping isn't an essential mod. It's going to sit on the shelf because it's a bulky battery guzzling turd. 99% of the time I recommend playing on original hardware but this is one authentic experience you don't really want to experience. At least not regularly.
Consider consolizing it if you really have a hard on for some of the exclusives and want to play on a CRT as the developers originally intended.

>It's going to sit on the shelf because it's a bulky battery guzzling turd.

Modern batteries actually make the GG last longer than most new handheld consoles now. Still pales in comparison to the GB in terms of life but it's no where near as bad today as it was in the 90s.

I see where he's coming from though. I agree that modding it to work as a console would be ideal. I mean how often are you really going to take it with you when you're out and about?

But I already know this. I have several and have used them with new batteries. Still shit. This is the difference between actually experience and parroting what kids on the internet say.

>>3484708
Where on your doll is the empty energizer crate?
If you just play at home on AC then by all means consolize. That solves the two biggest issues. Power and screen. You might not even need to recap because the screen is usually the thing that really needs that.

an ac adapter is a must.

gg aleste 2
gg shinobi 2
mickey mouse land of illusion

those are the best 3 games on the system. i played through every single game on the system, except jpn rpgs.

I play mine in the car, great for roadtrips or chilling while shopping. Consolized GG is cool though. In a perfect world I would have one with a mcwill screen and a lifepo4 hack.

Like, technically speaking. What an odd question.

Did you really just ask how newer hardware is better? Do you have some weird hate boner from your childhood? I'm really curious why you would bother giving your opinion without actually sharing anything meaningful.
