I never really got what's supposed to make Gradius Gaiden better than other Gradius games. I didn't get that far in it, but they're all great really. Why do people say it's a pinnacle of the series? I don't know. Played 1–3 and they were mostly the same.

some of them may be sony fans, but I think the real reason some people around here hate Treasure is because Ikaruga kind of took the spotlight on shmups for the "general" public, while other games shmupfags like like donpachi or garegga don't get nearly as much attention.
Top it with the fact Ikaruga has an unorthodox polarity system (and Radiant Silvergun having its color-chain scoring system as well), and the fact Treasure is also generally well liked all around.

it's a recipe for the typical neckbeard contrarian to hate on all of it.

I bet many of them aren't even fanboys of a particular console, I'd say a lot of them started playing shmups with Touhou.

You really hate Gradius V because it lacks moais?

I agree the lack of moai is weird and sucks, they're a staple of Gradius, but the game itself is quite good.
Lack of moai aside, it's a nice treat to Gradius fans. Gameplay is good, it contains tons of classic Gradius bosses revamped and is very challenging in a good way.

It's not my favorite Gradius, but as a Gradius fan I can't say I disliked it.
