Just found this Blood port to Duke32 called BloodCM, some fags at /v/ were saying it's shit. Can anyone here tell me what's wrong with it? I've never played Blood before and wanted to give it a go

Listen to the fags at /v/ just play blood. That one recreates the look but not much else

BloodCM is a recreation. All gameplay behaviours were redone from scratch in an empirical way and they're all completely off, from enemy behaviours to weapons, etc

Download the GoG version. We can share some tips for configuring both the game and the DOSbox conf file if you need.

What are your specs?

CPU should be what matters the most with DOSbox. On my 2,5ghz dualcore, ultimately I could only run the game smoothly at 320*200. On my 3,2ghz quadcore, I run it at 800*600.
Number of cores shouldn't matter for DOSbox.

For Build games, between 800*600 and above doesn't make a huge difference.

Anyway - if you're running the GoG version, check dosboxBlood.conf. Cycles by default is set to "max" but manually setting it myself made me gain 10-20FPS. However past a certain value it may make intro and ending videos stutter.

Try different "output" methods, see what runs best on your computer.

If you're having issues with flickering hud, set machine to vesa_nolfb

You can also try this, some people claim it does wonders. Didn't make a difference for me

that is what you get by merely recreating a game from scratch.

What we need is a sourceport but honestly every one of you should be building a retro PC to play these games on. It'll still cost you less than any retro console and have an exponentially larger library.

I get super bad lag whenever I try and run blood, legit or pirated. I've got an shitty dual core

>> No.3481069

>>3480994
This. Playing Blood on an actual Win '98 machine is so much smoother than DOSBox even if you have a really good modern system and get 60+fps on it. There's no more of the weird micro stutters and everything you end up getting used to. It runs butter smooth i.e. how it's supposed to actually run. Plus seeing the game on a 4:3 CRT monitor (again, how it's actually supposed to look) is really fucking delicious.

These engine recreations are so lame.

The good question here is what do I need to run normal blood?

This hardly justifies getting any i9 or i7 deca core or 220watt bulldozer.

I'm unsure about any sort of SBC, like this one. At the very least the sound would be off.

I've been considering using an old pentium with a small TV - not even at the limit of composite, I don't believe that would do it justice.

I've also looked at an old Atom, but I doubt win98 would function properly on something like that. I guess that would require dual booting win2k and freedos. The single PCI slot would be a nasty limit on such a setup - DOS games call for a sound card - I guess the old ES1371 based ensoniq soundblasters with the good driver wrappers. But most windows games would want a proper video card - and PCI limits that harshly.

I wish someone would upload a premade vm file with blood on it already, because I suck at using dos.

>> No.3482113

>>3482085
download dos

download blood and put the file on C: Drive

watch a video on how to mount games

boom. also increase refresh rate

>> No.3482123

>>3481843
why not use a CRT monitor instead of TV? it would be much better.

Idk what specs you'd need for Blood. as a kid I ran it on a Pentium 200MHz Win '95-'98. It ran perfect on that but I really don't remember if that was on the low resolutions or something like 640x480. I actually think it was a bit laggy at 640x480 but I'm really not sure as that was a lifetime ago.

>> No.3482152

>>3482123
I only have one mediocre CRT monitor, and I think I'll have to end up using it for an emulation box.

And it's too heavy and has too large a viewing space for the place I'd have it.

I've got two CRT TVs. One is that small one, the other is quite big - that one would require me scooping up a video card with S-video out to use it properly.

>> No.3482164

>>3482085
DOS really isn't that bad. Coming from somebody who didn't grow up using it I can safely say you can learn it easily by watching a video or two.

Someone here had uploaded some VM files a while back for Blood. Didn't save them though but maybe he'll see this.
