playing them in order

how can V expect to beat this? I think I like it more than III

>> No.3468028

For me it doesnt, 4 is the best in the series

I might think so too when I'm done with them all

Its the characters man, they are all so good.

Did you play on NES? The remakes have a fifth chapter that gives you more backstory on Psaro, its worth playing it.

>> No.3468098

never really got into DQ. What versions are you playing OP? Translated SNES remakes or DS or something else?

>> No.3468103

>>3468098
Not OP but you should play the newest version of each game that isnt on phones, unless you want to see what the original experience was like and feel like a japanese kid in the 90s

>> No.3468108

Dragon Quest IV was really charming for me (I think I just identified a lot with Tornenko because I'm self-employed) but got kind of tedious. DQ V has a more engaging story in my opinion. Enjoy!

I played the DS versions btw.

Don't play the DS versions. Everyone there speak with totally unintelligible accents.

>> No.3468113

>>3468112
Its worth it for the extra content, the accents are nowhere near as bad as in that screenshot for the rest of the game, by chapter 4 they are almost gone completely

As someone who played V snes as their first and IV later on I feel it doesn't. IV is in my opinion the definitive DQ. It gets nearly everything right. I've played through it three times (two on NES and once on DS) and never got to a part where I thought "man is this a slog". V is amazing too though, don't think you're getting a shitty game. Personally I find the last third of V a bit weak but it's seriously one of the best in the series.

You get a lot more if you play in the original Japanese form.
The overseas version is lacking the ability to talk to party members.

The party chat in 4 is meh, you arent missing much.

What makes you say that?

I read the whole party chat script of 4
Psaro has like 2 lines, anyways it wasnt in the original, its not essential to enjoy the game at all

>> No.3468154

>>3468148
You read the script or you read a translation/synopsis of the script?
I really wouldn't base it on Pissaro since he's not much of a party member.
The PS1 version was rewritten based on the ability to talk to your party, it's not something you can just leave out.

Playing the phone version because it has party chat. Despite what you think it adds to the characters feeling real

Played the NES DQIV but I'm currently playing the DS remake, I have the V and VI DS remakes also. Just started Taloon's chapter. Honestly the accents don't bother me much at all, there's a bit of charm in there though it's true it takes a moment to understand what they are saying but hey that happens in life.

V is the best one.

I really like that box art.

This is probably around the time Toriyama was doing the Namek saga.

>> No.3470331

One of these days I'm going to purchase the mobile version of Dragon Quest 4 so I can experience the party chat. I still haven't beaten 7 or 3 though, so itll probably be after that

I'm actually plating through it on Famicom now. The DS remake is much better, but in both that Taloon/Torneko chapter drags the whole game down for me. V is better as far as I'm concerned.

>> No.3470486

>>3468023
>how can V expect to beat this?
Well, for one thing, you can control your other party members in V. But yeah, IV is amazing and V is just even more amazing. You'll just have to play them both for yourself.

Pretty neat how we're both playing them in order though. Are you playing the Famicom version of IV? Asking since that image is the Japanese box art. I'm playing through Dragon Quest VI SFC right now, you'll get there soon enough!

>>3470446
Cool to see another guy playing the Famicom versions of these games. Yeah, Torneko's section isn't great. I give it props for being a cool idea though. And I would play it a hundred times before having to trudge through the middle of Dragon Quest VI. Now there's a section that brings the whole game down!
