Ok everyone stop being positive for a second: what were the fucking WORST consoles of each generation that you owned?

Keep in mind that on /vr/ the only 6th gen console you can mention is the Dreamcast, so you may be forced to admit that it's shit for once in your life in this thread.

The Sega Saturn. It had some good games but man did the PS1 make it look like crap, though at least it had the far superior versions of X-men/Marvel vs Street Fighter.

I only owned a PS4 for 6 months and I'm glad I sold it, the only games I really liked were also on Vita so at this point I'd rather buy one of those.

I don't feel like I've ever owned a bad retro system in its day. That said, I didn't have much of an opinion, and only owned one system of each generation at a time anyway.

I suppose my least favorite is the Game Gear. It's a very unportable portable, and sure, I can plug it in, but then it's not much of a portable. Plus the games don't really do much for me.

I keep hearing Saturn had a lot of good Japanese exclusives but I admit I've never investigated very far.

Having only owned a PSX and an N64 I have to say the N64 came out slightly lacking, even though I enjoyed both. N64 leaned too hard on shovelware that was all trying to be Mario 64, and the RPG genre was dead on it. I also basically never feel like plugging it in these days but that's just because most of its good games got copied or remade better elsewhere - it was an inventor console but not a perfector.

let me answer that question this way. here's a list of the consoles i owned:

- nes
- genesis
- game gear
- snes (with donkey kong country package)
- gameboy
- ps1 (i don't know the difference between ps1 and psx, so let's call it ps1 for now because i suspect psx is a different sku)
- gaming pc
- ps2
- gamecube
- xbox 360
- ps3
- pc

here's what i SHOULD HAVE asked for:

- nes
- genesis
- snes
- gameboy
- gameboy color
- n64
- ps2
- gamecube
- pc

after the ps2/gamecube era, it would've been a great time to upgrade to pc. the 360 and ps3 were a mess. when you literally use a console as a space heater because of it's stupid design (the 360), something is wrong.

it still seems like a good idea to own a gaming pc. everything's getting ported to pc anyway. i still think they'll port bloodborne to pc sooner or later. there doesn't seem to be a good alternative at the moment. i WISH console gaming was still good.

last note, looking at my should-have list, it seems i would've been a nintendo fan. this is concerning, because sega made a commercial with a fat loser sitting alone at recess playing a gameboy, and i...would've fit that profile, although i was a fat bully instead of a fat loser. i still am a fat bully, come to think of it. i generally hate nintendo fanboys because they seem like the same people who unironically like steven universe, and MLP.

maybe the way things turned out was for the best, but i wish i could get back all the time i wasted on psx-era JRPGs.

I feel as if the same is true for the PSX as well. It seems as if plenty of games on that system leaned very hard on having tons of mediocre JRPGs that tried to be FF7 and/or try to have go more with flashier presentation than good gameplay by abusing the shit out of the FMV or CD audio features. Both systems were overall pretty meh with only a handful of decent-good games to be honest.

I didnt own smash melee but it was always fun playing at my friends, but besides that i always felt like gamecube had no games

I never knew anyone with a Master System, so the NES sort of wins 3rd gen by default.

My friends and I liked the Squaresoft box, no questions there, but it simply couldn't compete with the Genesis on multiplayer. We could sit here accusatorially throwing lists at each other, but that's how it was.

I personally owned both. The hardware was a gift, but I bought a lot of my own games with money I made hustling at a flea market. And given the choice, I invested in both. 4th gen was amazing.

Now the N64, that's the dictionary definition of regret. The original no-games-station. You can look back on it and cherry pick, but the release schedule was god awful. I'm not going to be a memester and say shit like, "Ocarina of Time was overrated!" No, it was 10/10. But waiting six months for anything even remotely interesting to surface permanently soured my opinion of Nintendo.

The Dreamcast had the greatest launch lineup of all time.

Didn't own more than one gen until 5th, and that was more of my brother having an N64. N64 was worse based on library, limited space on carts, and a shitty controller.

honestly, the SNES has an inferior sound chip, the difference in games vs the genesis aren't that different, and the software is less innovative.

keep in mind sega came up with the sega channel, which was lightyears ahead of its time. and the saturn is nothing to scoff at. for a while, it was probably just as good as having a psx.
