Hard mode - Genesis fake transparency

>> No.3446081

>>3446073

That's the one thing that hangs me up. People can argue what they want, but dithering looks weird in RGB. I play Genesis/MD almost entirely in RGB, but the dithered shading and transparencies just don't look right.

>> No.3446116

>>3446081
Yeah, that can be a little frustrating. The snes seems to use them way less, I suppose because they had more colours to work with.

"how the developers intended it"
Like, who gives a shit. I'm sure the creative vision has little to do with the technology used.

However I want to know when they make a filter for retroarch that emulates a really old tube tv where the color red bleeds.

>> No.3446197

yeah guys, I'm sure the developers intended their games to be discussed by 4chan autistic men comparing screenshots on HD screens in the 2010s.

You can just fuck with the settings on your monitor to get it to look right. It's a shame PVMs don't support more presets since really you should have different setting for every console at minimum.

i remember buying a new crt, and it had a bend at the top. i was playing mgs2, which, in the menu, had a straight line along the top. the screen bent it, and it irritated the fuck out of me. i thought it was defective, but later i learned, nope, that's just how those pieces of shit look.

i don't give a shit about retro games looking authentic. sometimes authentic is shit. i appreciate being able to run a filter on games like smw. compared to smb3, smw looked like something that DID have a filter for its time, you know? the difference in fidelity was that significant.

that said, i wouldn't mind setting up a retro gaming station. i just don't seem to have the space for it.

pardon the rant.

Smw looked so much better because it was on snes you twat.

Nah m8 the developers intended it for those old big screen tvs, the ones with the plastic screens you had to brush.

I'm pretty sure the developer just intended that you would play the game. Not descend into an autistic spiral over the exact kind of screen to use.
