What's your favorite Castlevania game? Do you prefer classicvania or metroidvania?

>> No.3443880

I don't prefer either. I love both for different reasons. Favorite is of fucking course the first NES game.

>> No.3443890

Metroid because I'm a filthy casual.

>> No.3443984

First game, classicvania of course. Imo metroidvania is just a shoddy Metroid. RPG elements are no good.

Just beat the first NES Castlevania today, actually. Damn it was fun. What other Castlevania games should I get that get that are at least somewhat equivocal?

What was everyone's strategy for Dracula? Had a hell of a time trying to beat him.

The first Castlevania and Symphony of the Night are up there with my favorite games.

There's no point in comparing the two styles, as they are designed to meet different objectives (if that makes sense), and both of them are masterpieces within their own intended style of gameplay. With that said, I enjoy Symphony of the Night more.

I'm currently up to Dracula in Rondo.
This is my first Classicvania and I love it (previously I've only played SotN).
I might hit that list up.

I don't have a PC Engine to play Rondo or a Famicom to play Akumajou Densestsu. Is the Japanese version of CVIII that much better (or different for that matter) than the US counterpart?

>> No.3444186

Is the virtual console version of the first game worth picking up? I wanted a castlevania to play on my 3DS. I feel like the Dpad kind of sucks though.

>> No.3444251

>>3444182
It's on the Wii virtual console as well as in a PSP game called "Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles." Or you could just emulate it.

The western version of CV3 was made a good deal more difficult, as enemies deal damage based on the level you're in instead of what kind of enemy it is. For example, bats do little damage throughout the entirety of Akumajou Densenstu, while in CV 3 they do little damage in level 1 and by the final level do 1/4 of your health.

Balance changes aside, the music also had to be changed (IIRC the NES didn't allow for additional music channels beyond the standard 5).

Not the anon who originally posted it, but have downloaded and started playing. It's a totally different game. Apparently started life as a C2 remake for the Spectrum, but eventually became its own thing, and it's very, very good so far.

It's got the free roaming of C2 and the town, but totally different world, dungeons and no annoying day/night stuff.

Where?

Nobody falls for that old bait anymore on CV threads. People know he's there shitposting, but nobody gets into arguments with him anymore.
Again, I think that Amiga shitposting thread is more likely just someone who wanted to troll europeans, maybe Australia-kun among them. Most of the discussion on that thread is european vs american computers.

And anyway this whole "revenge shitposting" mindset is kindergarden level. Come the fuck on.

I really liked HoD. it might have its flaws but I think the other metroidvanias have far less content and you get 2 whole castles to explore. you'll need to consult a walkthrough at one point though because it was kinda obscure triggering a certain event after a boss fight which was mostly forgettable. the goal was simply to reach other areas of castle b or something.

CotM is okay but was short.

I like that they forced you to use other movement options until you got the double jump and it turned into all the other vanias

they really need to rethink their gameplay design. or would, if konami wasn't focused on pachinko and vegas machines

>>3452364
they're all empty and bland imo. cotm is bigger and emptier, but they seemed to at least care about platforming. hod is just straight corridors filled with enemies.

on that note, has anyone played the multiplayer castlevania on the ps3? how was it? it looked fun but no one wanted to play so I never got it.
