thoughts on megaman legends? I just gave myself a massive spoiler looking for this image because I accidentally took a glimpse at the megaman legends 3 cover, so that's just a little story

>> No.3442976

the story in MML goes full anime at the end, which i hated.

gameplay wise it was interesting.

i thought the world and art design were weird, but interesting.

it's not in my top 5-10 list.

>> No.3442984

the first one is one of my favorite PS1 games of all time

but I think the 2nd one is just okay

I've never finished this game, I played it when I was a little anon , The controls are kinda shit, but the soundtrack is amazing and the villains are the funniest shit

I think both MML games are awesome (never played Tron Bonne though)

I'm sure I have some serious nostalgia goggles, but I thought the gameplay was fun, the story was super interesting which SPOILER: makes me really fucking mad they ended 2 on a cliff hanger and then went and canceled 3 without warning. The music is good, I like the characters etc etc.

The only thing I didn't like were the controls. By default you use the D pad to move as if it was WASD and use R1 and L1 to turn. It's forgivable because the game was pre-dual shock, but thankfully they fixed it in 2.

Play them if you can, theres nothing else quite like them.

Only played the 1st one on PS1. I rather liked it but the controls took a bit to get used to. Game's way too short

They run a sad facebook group that doesn't get anything done but pretends like it is doing the Lord's work.

MML 3 was looking ridiculous. I want to play as Megaman, not some stupid anime edgy teenager OC.
Megaman is fucked in the moon? Right, let me play as Roll, Tron and the Bonnes.

MML2 was already a bit too anime for my tastes.

I didn't think it was that much animu, at least not compared to the X or especially the Zero series.

Given the few plot points revealed about 3, I am almost certain that dude was going to end up being a time-shifted or otherwise de-aged Barrel and that would have been rad as hell.

>> No.3444234

The only problem I have with the MML games is that they left a Mega Man-shaped hole in my heart that will never be filled. I love them so much.

It's in my top 5, my favorite PS1 game. What a charming and wonderful setting

Replayed them last year on emulators and honestly had about as much fun as I did when I was a kid. They've aged incredibly well.

This. MML is probably the most charming early PS1 game. It's extremely easy-going, the setting and themes are basically cotton candy compared to any other action-adventure game. It's very much in the vein of Battle Network's tone rather than the classic series or X.

You also have to understand that this was released in an era before Ocarina of Time, so for a mid-budget title, they didn't quite know how to approach putting Megaman in 3D space. There's autoaim and no lock-on system, and the camera can be a little uncooperative, but I find this freeing. Legends 2 really ripped off Z-targeting in my view, and the bosses became samey strafefests because of that. If there's one thing Megaman Legends 1 does well, it's the boss battles.

The voice work is also really distinct and well-done, if questionable from a sound perspective. They must've had some strange soundstage setups over at Capcom in 1996.

>> No.3444539

I felt this series had a lot of potential but I dont think the budget was great. MML2 started off good, but I felt like there was parts that went nowhere or wasnt really fleshed out like with the character Joe.

It felt too short to me, there shouldve been more stuff in between getting the keys

It's pretty OK; calling it Mega Man was pointless though.

The main criticism you're gonna get nowadays will usually involve the old-fashioned tank controls, which I don't really see as a legitimate "bad" point

Not really. I thought it at least had a few of the elements from the previous games intact, just executed them in a different manner due to the nature of the game's setting/the fact it's in a 3D space.

Such as? I really can't remember any actual gameplay element from the original being passed over to this series

The controls in the game makes it feel really antiquated. I only like it because of the visuals. Oh, and also, Tron Bonne is the cutest.

>>3444832
I've heard Megaman Legends was made so that Capcom would be allowed to make Megaman 8, you know how hyped 3D games were back then, and Sony didn't want to be that associated with 2D.

>> No.3447054

>>3446990
The controls are solid and there's basically 3 tiers of combat progression

>good enough to defeat enemy
->defeat enemy efficiently (no damage, ect)
-->defeat enemy efficiently and gather all refractors dropped

some third-party PS2 controllers have the analog stick and d-pad wired together, playing MML with one will give you faux analog support, feels a lot more natural than d-pad

Kattelox town is the definition of comfy. The first hour is quite the chore but past that point, the game is pretty much a blast.
