I mostly played JRPGs, Vehicular Combat, Sim Games, and RTS as a kid and I wanted to play some retro games outside of those genres. I'm looking for good platformers, metroidvanias, SHMUPS, etc. Something that involves a more active kind of gameplay and a feeling of skill progression.

I no longer have my old consoles, so it would have to be emulated.

Also I have no idea how well they hold up. But I had a ton of fun with the old Duke Nukem games.
