Only fags and Nesfag would disagree.

There is already a RE1 thread, a RE2 thread and a RE3 thread. You could have used that.

As far as retro ones go:

There's a lot of ways to rank each game. Which one is the scariest would be one way, but I never experienced fright when playing these games. Graphics? They look progressively better but RE1 definitely looks the worst. Game design/progression? RE1 and 2 are nearly identical, with RE3 being the most straightforward to finish and nearly impossible to get lost in. That's not to say it's the most linear, it's rather a case of having the least amount of [necessary] backtracking. Sound/music? I'd say RE3 has the best overall sound design and music, though RE2's final credits has an awesome rock (genre?) tune.

I feel like RE2 is deemed the most popular, but I love RE3 the most and there's always room for more love for the first game for arguably having the best case scenario of a vintage mansion that you cannot escape from. To the untrained survivalist, this can make the most claustrophobic experience.

My personal love for the three games is RE3 > RE2 > RE1, but I think the more objective ranking must be RE 1 > RE2 > RE3. Sometimes less is more and for all intents and purposes, RE1 had it perfect the first time, with each game taking all the established elements and adding more to the meta game (though it clearly stopped at 3, considering CV removed several of its elements, i.e. dodging, ammo making, different scenarios, etc).

Interestingly, when I first played RE1 fully, I was around 14 years old and it was on my home computer... which had no sound (and I have myself to blame for that). I welcome anyone to try playing RE1 without sound. Obviously it's not nearly as effective if you already know the game backwards and forwards but it adds a certain layer of dread, I think. I remember at night it would make me feel very reluctant to leave my bed after playing all afternoon.

Don't be that guy. We're not /v/, do not let this board become it.

For me it goes

1 > 3 > 2

but I love all of them.

>1
I prefer the mansion to the police station. I feel that it is a lot scarier than 2 and 3. In particular, Hunters are scarier than Lickers. The cutscenes are funnier, and I wish they were longer. Really fun to play knife-only. I'm a biased whore for early 5th gen graphics.

>3
A lot of improved gameplay mechanics, better graphics, and I prefer Jill to both Leon and Claire. I also prefer 3's way of handling choice compared to 2. Rather than just switching discs to play a different path with another character, it lets me choose my actions kind of like in the first game.

>2
While still an amazing game, I think the cutscene dialogue is really boring. It feels very easy compared to the first game. However, the game is beautiful and has great music. Fluid controls. Many unlockables. Best game to start with.

Crazy how in the first 8 posts, all 6 possible rankings have already been mentioned. I guess the games are just that consistently good.

All were good though. I never played them until this year for the first time and all held up amazingly well.

1. Resident evil 1
has the best atmosphere/music/design of them all, its less action more horror, plus its the one game i had the most fun with.

2. resident evil 2
Still a fun game, although the focus is more on action with this one.

3. resident evil 3
I had to force myself to finish this. It seems to be dull and repetitive, and i had the feeling i did this a million times before. Decent game though.

Honorable mention goes out to code veronica and biohazard zero which are both much better than resi 3.

dude, the internet is a scary place where people dare to have different opinions, take a deep breath now, but No.3440384 probably has more taste than you do.

>> No.3440702

Only 2 > 1 > 3 is valid. 3 wasn't really as good as 2 and 1 were. Code Veronica is 10x better.

>> No.3440840

I've never played the original version of RE1.. I played the whole series on GC.

In my probably incorrect opinion, REmake > RE4 > 2 > CVX = 0 > Nemesis

What each game did better than the others:
1. Map design
2. Plot and replayabilty
3. Gameplay Mechanics

Have you even played RE3?! Between the semi-random item and enemy placement, the different scenarios and events can trigger depending on your actions, the freedom of ammo making, and of course the sheer fun of the gameplay, RE3 has insane replay value.

Every different scenario in RE2 is 90% the same and completely static.

>> No.3442064

RE2 > the rest

>> No.3443781

>>3442054

this is a good point but you have to remember that the later versions of RE2 have the randomizer mode which makes it more like RE3

>> No.3444114

does this mean we can fight queen gohma now?

>> No.3444135

I don't see much point in comparing them. 1 is a cinematic horror story full of silly trap elements. 2 is the action packed sequel that says "you think a mansion of monsters was bad? Try a whole city!" 3 is the one that refined all the best elements of the previous 2 and changed the story based on your decisions. Code Veronica was the one where they said "hey, we have to keep making these because they make money" and actually pushed the technology forward. A shame they couldn't figure out to update the controls. REmake was a remake done right, which is odd considering how often that concept gets fucked up. Zero and just about everything up to 4 are games that are basically before their time. Zero would be fun as fuck with a co-op partner, the Outbreaks would have been amazing if they were released on a system with a modem/harddrive as standard, and Dead Aim is basically a shitty proto-re4 that gets a lot better when you realize you can use a plug and play mouse to aim.

Oh, and Survivor is fun too. Gets way more shit than it deserves.

I know people are gonna flip their shit but 1 = 3 > 2. I don't know what it is, I just CANNOT enjoy Re2 for some god-forsaken reason.
