Best platform to play/emulate this game on? I was watching gameplay of this game and I want to try it out.

Retro answer: Dreamcast version is pretty much the best

Not Retro answer: PS2 (Rayman Revolution)

>> No.3430932

Retro: Dreamcast.
Non-Retro: PS2 with Rayman Revolution (It's a remake, though).

retro answer: don't
non retro answer: still don't

the video probably made it look better than it is. rayman was a shitty overrated platformer till origins

N64: Original release. Poor texture quality
PSX: Good port, but lots of content cut, avoid
Dreamcast: Some extra content, but by-far best quality graphics
PC: Accessible, no need to emulate. Hi-resolution. Dreamcast looks better though
PS2: Lots of extra content (a hub world). Lots of slowdown.

For the best retro experience, Dreamcast VGA hands-down. Otherwise PC. Get the PS2/N64 versions if you already own these consoles.

N64 is the original release, DS is a terrible port of it. IIRC PC is also a port of this version with much better textures. PS1 has a lot of cut content. Dreamcast is the best retro version, also has a decent 3DS port. PS2 is a full blown remake and is kind of hit-or-miss IMO.

"Rayman" stole what is rightfully Plok's.

Unfortunately for Plok, Rayman didn't "steal" enough and as such didn't turn out to be a barely playable turd.

Dreamcast and PC are the best ports.

Despite what people say, the PS1 port is actually pretty damn fun. A lot of content was cut but it's still a more than playable game.

DS isn't bad, but the 3DS one can break at certain parts of the game. (Invisible flying bombs in some of the later levels mostly.)

I haven't played the N64 or PS2 versions but you should play the N64 one if you have the choice.

The PS2 version really isn't anything special. Boring, confusing hub world, cumbersome enemies round every corner, slowdown, reduced framerate, filler levels; the only actual worthwhile addition was the voice acting.

DC is the best retro version but the N64 game can make use of the expansion pack and looks really nice for the console, though the sequenced music is a little weaker than the redbook audio of other versions. The DC version was the first time I ever saw "60fps" touted as a feature on the back of a box but it really does make a difference.

Controls suck on DS.

I remember controls were an issue, but I still beat the game and had a bunch of fun along the way.
You can re position the circle pad on the touchscreen in the options menu.

>Ubisoft makes a subpar port of Rayman 2 for DS
>Ubisoft makes another port of that game but for 3DS and it still sucks
How? I mean, they had another fucking chance to do it right with a much better handheld.

Thankfully for everyone, Rayman chose not to copy Plok's shit gameplay.

As long as you avoid the PS1 version you should be alright

>rayman was a shitty overrated platformer till origins

nooope. Rayman 2 in the dc was superior than sonic ad and ad 2. I have played and finish both games. Fun fact: im not even a rayman fan. A third party multyplatform game beat the shit out of a first party console exclusive game...
