Some things such as art is up for opinion and perceptions while stuff such as facts are either right or wrong. While you may have the fact wrong it will still be wrong regardless, there is no debating this because otherwise it wouldn't be a fact. If we allow people to let 2 + 2 equal 5 then math as a whole would be useless.

You might like purple better and that is fine, it is your TV so whatever but don't be a retard and claim it isn't the wrong color. You would only spread misinformation and do more harm than good. It is because of people like you that many honestly believe pet birds/rats/snakes should be stuck in a cage at all times and other wrong things. You can choose to be ignorance by all means just please don't talk to others about subjects that you have no right in talking about. Just keep your mouth shut in the future if you are too lazy to do the research.

Who are these autists that are more obsessed with television setups and screen displays than the actual games?

I never gave a shit about scanlines, aspect ratios, crts, adapter types. As long as the game showed up on my screen and didn't flicker I was fine.

Seen threads where normal looking screen caps were scrutinized as not having optimal setup, then a screen cap of the "proper" setup is shown and they practically look the same.

A lot of Rain Men in this board.

>I never gave a shit about scanlines, aspect ratios, crts, adapter types
don't care about scanlines, crt or adapter types, that's all just technicalities and lead to different kinds of fuzzy, but aspect is kind of a big deal to me, as it's a property of the image itself. That is, I care about it not just in /vr/ games, but all games, movies, photos, anything. I pick up a lot on bad aspect, things looking too wide or flat. Proportions are what make an image, to some degree. Just ask artists about composition. Stretching or squishing an image is like altering some universal constants. You don't do that shit unless you want the world to end.
However, I do try to stay within reason. We had a NES/SNES aspect discussion here a while back, and it's a real mess to figure out what these systems are doing on ntsc. That seems to be quite far out there. Meanwhile, stretching a 4:3 image to a 16:9 screen, or not correcting the aspect of a visibly distorted 320x200 game, rubs me the wrong way. Mind the qualifer of "visiblity distorted". I used to be adamant, but learned there are some games that do assume square pixels, for whatever reasons. Of course it'd be silly to break that. And then there's Civilization. Oh how I love this game and loathe its intro.

why would people be pissed off at component cables? Isn't that like the gold standard to play old games?

Are you familiar with the concept of rounding? generally, a number is rounded either up or down depending on where its final digit is a number 0-4 or 5-9. 0-4 and it rounds down (or stays as it is in the case of 0) while it rounds up with 5-9.

Examples would be saying "it's 8.50" rather than "it's 8.48" when someone asks the time, telling someone that you spent $147 dollars on groceries the other day rather than saying $146.78 or saying that you weigh 68kg rather than 68,24kg.

Similarly, 2,3 ≈ 2 as is 2,4.

2,3 [≈ 2] + 2,4 [≈ 2] = 4,7 [≈5], so 2 + 2 can indeed equal 5, in the case of very large twos.

I understand where you're coming from. Personally, I mostly care about proper scaling and 0ms input delay. Damn scanlines to hell, but boy do they look pretty. What's even more important to me is that I don't loose in the game because there is an intermediate such as input delay or malfunctioning hardware. If there is no input delay or malfunctioning hardware and I'm getting my shit slapped in the game then it falls upon me to get better at it. Another secondary subject of interest is proper color display. Secondary because like color blindness, if my reds/greens/blues are not calibrated I might be handicapped in fast movement games not being able to discern objects at a distance. To be honest, if you're going to have gaming as a hobby then you're going to want to be knowledgeable in what is optimal for your experience otherwise you're just another casual pressing buttons.
