When I was ten I spent close to an hour trying to get to the final boss. I used up some lives and a continue trying to beat the metal sonic. After I beat him i thought I finally beat the game until Robotnik started running towards the actual final boss. I died trying to hit it and got a game over.

Don't even think about using password, you can't leave this stage and to beat it you will need all the upgrades you can collect through the game.

You have to beat the game in one sit, also when you finally reach the final stage you have one shot to beat it, because if you die you will lose your remote bomb, your block pass, your louie and your extra health.
You won't beat this game if you die a single time in the final sage. Did you just die? Reset the game.

But it's not that difficult, at least in the Sega version. The SNES has a much smaller viewable area and worse collision though, so I can kind of understand the complaints from people who played that version. meanwhile, Streets of Rage 2, one of the easiest games of all time, was rented by my family three times

then bought as a birthday present

we proceeded to beat it ten times that week, and then about twice a week for the next few years. we'd just be sitting around, and just decide to put SoR2 in and beat it again.

if the game is fun, "beating it" doesn't mean you're done with it

meanwhile, not having fun and getting mad at the game means you are done with it forever

Streets of Rage 2 has a huge number of difficulty settings, three playable characters with unique movesets, and co-op. In a beat 'em up with great controls and a lot of style, that equals a huge level or replayability. It's a shame that more games didn't shoot for that kind of value over the occasional BS difficulty spike to discourage purely renting.

Somehow beat it few times back in the days, the trick for me in this mission as well as survival challenges is to either let police push you (they just straight launch you in the air you can fly over half of the city like this) just have to watch where you fly and let them launch you, hits from the rear took small sliver of health which was better than lose big chunk of health in case police would Tbone you or took straight on.

Another ingredient is to maneuver cops into everything.
To beat this mission I was making mad slaloms between cars, light poles trams, making last second turn from oncoming police (that was a killer)

I wonder whether I could beat it again, after so many years.

>I'm guessing that's why the image chosen is somebody killing himself after getting sent back to 6-1

Yea that's why I added the "don't get me wrong" part, I was really just focusing on the other levels. Being sent too much far back is always bullshit.

How was Wizardry even played? Everything I've heard about it makes it sound so hard no kid could manage to perform well enough to play it.

It seems like one of those games you'd play during a drought, like you're tired of all your other games and beaten them all and you know you're not gonna get a new game for another 6 months. So you just play Wizardry for days and days, writing shit down cuz it's the only way to remember what you gotta do and where to go and shit, and getting dozens of game overs.

This is hard enough with a light gun, but I spent waaay to much time trying to beat it with a controller.

The game gives you the ship you need to handle these right off the bat, for pretty much free; all you have to do is learn how to use it.
