Wouldn't even call it classic, anyways. One of the things about classic was that you never knew how things were going to change from one patch to the next. Everyone knows everything about P99 and exactly what the state of endgame will be once it goes on maintenance mode.

A custom server that diverged from classic in a believable way would be way better. No one's going to put that much effort into making custom content for EQ, though.

I never got around to playing on p99. I did play some some EQEmu servers years ago but they never really had big populations.

I'll get around to checking on p99 though I'm sure at some point. I was really big in to EQ from Kunark up to around Gates of Discord, but stopped due to just about everyone I know switching to over MMOs at the time.

I played a lot on peq. I tried p99 but the fact one guild is your only way to raid, and let be real playing one char in eq isn't exactly super exciting, boxing 2 makes it a bit more entertaining.

Not a fan of the p99 admins who decided to take all the hard work of folks who did packet sniffs on eqmac and closed it up so no one can use the db. Also apparently they install spyware to catch folks using mq2 which doesn't sit well with me.

Peq is pretty far ahead these days but there is no reason you have to do the other expansions. Get a couple friends and you can easily box without mq2 - 3 of us did two groups without mq2. Only alt-tab :D

Also, there's not really any reasonable way to detect a radar app like this that they don't know about. I'd imagine what they do for known applications is hook the EQ exe to a custom function in their dll that regularly scans the Windows process list for known cheats. The only way to detect an unknown would be to hook Win32 itself so that it'd report every call to read another process's memory and look for ones reading EQ's memory space which 1) would give thousands of false positives which would be hard to separate from actual cheats 2) would miss lower level methods of reading a process's memory and 3) would massively compromise the system's security and potentially open themselves up to lawsuits resulting from that.

It's easier to check for apps, known and unknown, that write to your application's memory, but not much you can do about reads.

Showeq you can just run on another machine or in a virtual machine.

Surprised you pulled this off (sow speed thing) but if you weren't using a know tool it was probably easy to get away with. The part this annoyed me is that folks like you can do it, top guilds obviously can and do (pixels are serious business) it's not a even playing field.

I do gotta give p1999 credit for being so successful, but they need to fix their player base. There was a reason soe released so many expansions - their player base got bored after fully gearing and so elitist guilds formed around gate keeping new guilds from gearing.

It would be nice if they released their code base, really dick move to keep their database and client changes closed sourced.

The whole secrecy with eq is ridiculous , hiding mq2 configs, mq2 plugins, client fixes for boxing behind a pay wall, etc. Never seen a community for something so niche be this anal.

there were two main raiding guilds, aftermath and venerate.
Then a old disbanded guild(nigs who wakened the sleeper) regrouped as Rustle and started taking back what they thought was theirs.
The rustle guys are really cool actually.
I play with a smaller guild but have gotten pretty kitted lately due to the fact that we're small and most already have gear.

Whole issue is on blue if you say get a group together to start raiding the dominant guild will come and block your progress, intentionally camping targets you want, then letting the gear rot.

Playing a SK atm, it's fun as fuck and found a nice guild that has genuinly nice people in it who I can chat with and do some fun things with!

Kind of slows down after you hit 50, things are more outlined, camps are more camped. Still looking to hit the jackpot and loot one of those game changing items like Torpor!

The early adopter player population varies greatly. Many build mazes and obstacle courses for other avatars to explore. A good friend of mine built a put put golf course that works with a gust spell and a gust ball.

I played on peq for years around the pop era. It was a ton of fun boxing 2-3 with friends. Then raiding with other folks doing the same.

Folks would still group if they could 2 box, only now you only need 3 humans to make a productive group.

on p99 people just end up twinking their new characters and power leveling. It kinda kills for me when you gain 3x the XP in a hour because the tank in your group has some of the best droppables I'm the game - then you go back to slow as molasses XP.

P99 will end up imploding if they don't release luclin and pop.

I pretty much repopulated Lower Guk when I went there, came there at 35, only people in there were farming item camps. Started throwing out tells to people my level, got a BR group togeather, one week later logging in, there's 40 people and everything is camped.

Most people are up for group if you send tells!

Swimming is useful.

Skilling like a trade like blacksmithing, tailoring, etc. Is fucking brutal. It involves running back and fourth filling all your packs with mats to gain a few points. It's also super super expensive.

Paid off on live since making some banded mail was actually not bad coin and a fast sell.

On private servers it's only useful when your totally maxed out and making 100wr bags and shit.

Go to hot zones. grind XP, level up.

Oh and make sure you followed a guide for how to spend your points when you created your character. You can seriously fuck yourself by choosing the wrong race for your class and miss spending points.

End game you will max everything out with gear and stats won't matter as much but don't try and be a memester and play a dark elf warrior your first character.

Umm beg for gear. P99 has too many players maxed out so doing crafting and stuff is not needed. Half the players you play with will be twinks or have a maxed char. Just farm plat, use that to buy what you need and hope others will give you stuff since your a friendly guy.

Eq always had a small tight community, being a dick once can ruin your rep forever. I saw it on live so many times where a mid level would be black listed from groups. Or a ebay'er be black listed from every guild and never be able to raid. It's extra bad on p99. Reputation matters. Be nice and you will never be lfg. Be a dick and you will wish you played a druid.
