I didn't absolutely hate It, but I did dislike it. 4, 5, 6, and 7 gave me all kinds of feels. 8 Left me feeling cold. I felt like I was playing Degrassi:The Game+Magic. Still fun, but that teenage angst.

Actually, Ikaruga is worse than people hype it up to be. Bad scoring system, bad level design, bad boss designs (excluding the first stage's), bad polarity gimmick, and so on.

I can get behind the Junction System, even if drawing spells is a pain in the ass.
But holy fuck that story is absolute shit even for a Final Fantasy game.

Was always weirded out by that cover. Whats with Chris' face? Is he going insane? What about the phantom zombie faces or the giant spiders crawling up Chris' leg? Most importantly, what kind of gun is he holding? Thats cover is on par with some Mega Man shit.

It's funny but as bad as it is it still had three defining moments of video games for me in one game:

>chased through a hedge maze by a chainsaw weilding Frankenstein's monster

>vampire battle ending with a jump scare reveal of his reanimated victim

>hot topless girl washing herself in a stream slowly walks towards me revealing her bottom half is a giant fuck off spider

The ideas were there, the implentation of them was poor.

It had the graphics and rpg elements I consistently enjoy, it's just presented the wrong way. like a $2,000 gaming rig with Hewlett-Packard on the case.

I enjoyed that game a lot. Agreed it feels a bit cold and aloof but its still a decent game despite the shitty playstation textures. The end boss was a brutal struggle, which i like.

I liked the junction system.

I agree with the level scaling, but level scaling is garbage in literally every game that uses it

>> No.3404113

Ultimately it was just like most FF's that are not 7: enjoyed it when I played it, but do not have strong nostalgic attachment to it now. Definitely not a bad game though.

The story is good (not great, just good) if you think of it as a coming of age story for Squall, who is the best character in the game by a country mile.

I would say genre starter and trend setter.

If RE never released there is a chance horror games would have been the same regardless, but the game clearly influenced developers after it's release. It also started a genre of gaming that didn't exist because hardware didn't exist.

Deadly Towers on the NES

I feel like most people just give up on this game too quickly. If you are willing to get some graph paper and map out the dungeons it actually becomes an fairly fun game.

The only real valid complaint I've heard about this game is that Blaze Heatnix's stage is boring and lazily made, but even then there's still worse from X5, X7 and most of X8.

The rest of X6 is incredibly solid, and legitimately challenging for the most part. Which is a refreshing change from how effortless the previous ones are.

Its actually a pretty good game. The problem is most of the enemies move pretty fast and you can only have one projectile on screen at once, so you have to dodge around alot

Maybe if you're a professional cartographer and actually enjoy stopping what you're doing every time you enter a new screen and painstakingly mapping out the entire game. This goes for any old school dungeon crawler without automapping too. It's great if you have the autism necessary to do something so tedious and actually derive enjoyment out of it, but I don't think most people do. It's a lot more like tedious busywork than actually playing a game.
