A few Blockbuster stories for you

The games I've rented repeatedly were ACME Animation Studios on SNES and Army Men on N64.

One time my friend convinced me that the Barbie game on NES had a nude mode, so I convinced my mom to let me rent it. It was awful and did not have pixelated tits. My mom thought I was fucked in the head for the longest time.

I remember seeing Flintstones Surprise at Dinosaur Peak for sale NIB for like $5...

Also, not related to Blockbuster, but my roomate once had Nintendo Stadium Events with 2 pads. Traded it into FuncoLand (bought out by GameStop) for $40. Balls.

we hadnt stores like blockbuster in Germany.
Well at least not in the small areas. But we got a Video Renting store in the next city 2miles away and every weekend i could rent a game or two over the weekend (saturday til monday because sundays all stores except for gasstations are closed here),

I tried alot of Playstation games over the time.
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
Exhumed
Lifeforce Tenka
Tenchu
maaan .. it was a glorious time for me.
Playing Time Crisis with a Light Gun for the first time was fantastic. They even had games that were "banned"(indiziert) in Germany but not in other Pal Regions. So i enjoyed "Die Hard Trilogy" and other Brutal games.

I miss these old days. Fucking Nostalgia Goggles.

>> No.3402094

>>3402074
No, what's embarrassing is the constant parroting of "Dinosaur Peak! Little Samson!" due to the collector market.

No one had a clue what these games were prior to it as less than 10k copies of each game were ever produced, they were both released at a time when the NES had been obsoleted by a newer system, one of them was exclusive to a single chain of video rental stores, and even then only about half of said video rental places actually had any copies.

There are way more special snowflakes with stories about these games than actual copies that existed. Sadly, most of them feel the need to post their fanfiction here.

I see a lot of people talk about Hollywood Video, but around where I lived (Greater Richmond, VA area), they were scarce.

We had a couple of local chains called Movie Time and Video World. Both of these got bought by Movie Gallery in the mid 90s, and since Blockbuster emerged around here at about the same time, it pretty much prevented Hollywood Video from entering the market. They existed, but they were a much smaller presence than Movie Gallery and Blockbuster.

>> No.3404234

I remember sometime in 2003-2004 the Blockbuster in my town was getting rid of their 16 bit games. I picked up Dynamite Headdy and Gunstar Heroes for Genesis for $5 each. For Super Nintendo, all the popular stuff was gone and they only had F-Zero and Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, both $5. Unfortunately, because of nostalgia I picked up F-Zero and skipped Ninja Gaiden Trilogy. Fuck me.

>> No.3404327

I never went to a Blockbuster. I'm 20 and the only video store in my town closed down circa 2003 to 2004. I only remember ever renting one game from it: A PS1 Rugrats game. I think it was Search for Reptar.

I can't remember pretty much anything about it besides the graphics. I wanna play it again though.

On a side note, the track 1 music sounds like a bizarro version of "La Bamba". Not that that's a bad thing.

I know I/my family rented some from a local store near my house in the early 90s. Of course it is closed now, but I don't remember if its closing is what made us switch to BB or if we made the change prior. Not sure how many games I ever rented from there, though I feel like one of them may have been Bayou Billy.

I have a somewhat vague recollection of what the store looked like on the inside (I was born in '88 and I think we'd changed over to primarily renting from Blockbuster by the mid to late 1990s so my memory is a bit hazy as to the specifics). Wish I had photos of it or could remember the name to see if anyone else in my area snapped a photo back in the day.
