Are the retro Virtua Fighters worth playing nowadays?

Yeah. They're retired now as a franchise.

Out of ALL the VF games i like Virtua Fighter 1 the best. It has the tightest and lightning quick gameplay. I totally love the massive sound. And it aged pretty well since it doesn't suffer from grainy textures. Alas VF1 has far less polygons on saturn, though if my memory doesnt betray me here it has slightly better sound.

yes
if only to appreciate the simple yet logical layout of the controls.

VF1 on the 32X is a great port, I recommend giving it a try.

You'll never come back from VF2. Those jumps in that game take forever. Lost a couple mates back in the day because of that man.

2 and 3 are great.

2 was part of the formula they built upon to create VF4. It's fast and and still feels good to play.

3 is a more, uh, experimental entry in the series. AM2 introduced height variation, asymmetrical stages and hazards, along with a dedicated sidestep button. Movement is quite a bit different from 4 and 5. Visually speaking, a number of the attack animations vary based on hit or guard, which wasn't really picked up again until 5R and 5FS. By 1996 standards, the game was pretty impressive.

VF1 has awesome music, but I don't think the game does anything that hasn't been superseded by VF2 in all possible ways.

There's the remake included in VF4 Evo that's worth checking out.

>> No.3402717

It's not a real remake though, it's just VF4 using VF1 graphics.
