love VS, but severance blade of darkness plays a lot more like dark souls

it sucks, but considering the state of square enix maybe it's for the best

Both are frustrating as fuck.
One because of its challenge. The other because of its overly complicated mechanics.

>> No.3396191

ehh I like VS. It's a flawed gem at best and complete shit at worst

Those Matsuno games have nice aesthetics and all but are so broken once you understand the mechanics. Almost everything he's made. TO, FFT, VS. Everyone knows FFT is a hot mess. VS is an accomplishment though. It's actually broken whether you understand the mechanics or not. If you don't, >lol 2 dmg at a time. If you do and go full ASD and spend every other second in a menu screen, it's super easy.

The only games of his that aren't completely 100% fucked up are the Ogre Battle's and FF12 because they play themselves by design.

Eh, the Quickenings in FF12 were broken.
I went through the whole game without using them at all, and I never used any gambits either, just full control. It actually made the game very enjoyable and a nice little challenge in some parts. I give him some credit for making it so you can play the game however you want to, for those who don't care for auto-everything and auto-win abilities.

it really wasn't.

We called it a "playstation", and then later "playstation 2" when that came out later on.

No, it wasn't. Every kid in school called it the Sony PlayStation and when the PS2 came out, it was called the PS1. Just because you were born in the late 90s/early 2000s doesn't mean you know jackshit you gen-z dickwad.

Go take a look at GameFAQs back in the 90s on Wayback Machine, it was called that on a regular basis.

Until then, you can rattle your tits all day and stomp around having a temper tantrum. You revisionists are the worst.

Nah I didn't hear the term psx ever until I got into emulation.
Otherwise we just said PlayStation or ps1 to differentiate from the other consoles.
How did it even come to be called psx in the first place?

>> No.3396468

>>3396462
Derived from a codename during its production that stuck in order to remove ambiguity from other acronyms.

>> No.3396490

>>3396468
I see,I guess the only people who used the term were those who were more into games and followed development.
The more casual players who were unaware of it all just used normal terms.

>> No.3396554

Why are /v/ kiddies so fucking obsessed with trying to make older games be "the dark souls of"?
Castlevania, Ghost n Goblins, Shin Megami Tensei, Brandish, and now Vagrant Story too? What's next, Tetris is the dark souls of puzzle games?

No, it's fucking not. Nothing alike, at all.

Play King's Field or some other of these slow first person From games if you want "the dark souls of retro games" and fuck off.

>I see,I guess the only people who used the term were those who were more into games and followed development.

Nah, it's just how it was unofficially called by gaming magazines. What I don't know is why it stuck with so many people. Some magazines still called the N64 the "Ultra 64" after the new name was revealed for a while, but nowadays nobody uses the Ultra name anymore, I don't know why people still use PSX when referring to the PS.

>>3396468

What other acronyms? Japanese people always had and still use PS when referring to the original PlayStation

People just forgot the term "live action RPG". Hell, Zelda is the Dark Souls of stupidity if you look at it long enough. "Those redeads are like hollows guys!"

Stupid people will always be stupid. If you let them label games then Sonic would be the Mario of Sega and other stupid shit.

To this day people still call Final Fantasy a RPG (role playing game) when some of the games go out of their way to force you to play premade characters with premade stories. There is no helping it.

Nobody used gamefaqs for anything other than FAQs in the 90s.
