What are your guys' favorite HUDs? I made one that had all the same info as the vanilla Doom one and the more I use it the more stuff I chop off it. Do you need to know how many shells or rockets you have remaining while you're using the chaingun? Does it matter if there's an indicator of which keyboard keys corresponded to the weapons you've picked up?

Is there some information the vanilla Doom HUD misses out on that you like to see? monsters left / secrets? Something else?

I think thats perfectly useful information, as it helps you to quickly decide which weapon to use, without having to cycle through everything.

Its useful knowing which weapons you currently hold, and which you don't. Could be done as part of the four ammos box instead of giving its own big box, though.

Personally, I hate the idea of having monster count and secret count on the hud/automap. It feels like I'm doing a checklist, and I end up forcing myself to get everything for the sake of getting everything. I always make sure these are off when I use a source port, so I can focus on simply playing the game.

I just played Earth_100.Wad for Doom64.
Really liked it, provided a good challenge on "I own Doom", but one thing was a bit odd.
Was Map 02 supposed to be unwinnable?
I couldn't find the red key for the hell of me, and the doors leading to the next level closed of after I activated them two or three times.
That said, Fun map.

There's a lot of solid wads with intense but non-insane fights that don't have “Plutonia” in their name.

People who can look at the top result without bloody tears probably don't understand what's the big difference. Talking about gameplay and experience changes high resolutions introduce is even more futile.

The solution is simple: Crispy Doom or ZDoom at 640x480 is maximum ricing allowed. Explanation on how to get the proper result with simple 2x or 3x scaler on modern systems that don't support low resolution modes is going to take more lines. Choco and its derivatives that calculate everything automatically are much better in that regard.

I haven't been able to play DRLA in multiplayer properly for months. If you find a build of ZDoom or GZDoom that can actually do that again without fucking desyncing or crashing on mapload, please let me know. I think the furthest in any of my mods I've gotten recently is about three levels in before it broke.

tony hawk claims 5'8" and came out about 2 years later and the info must have come from id since he was in tony hawk's pro skater 3 to hype doom 3

Quake only supported CD audio for music, so I guess you could find the disc data and burn it to a CD, though when I tried that it didn't work.

Thankfully, DirectQ and QuakeSpasm both support music packs.


Just grab the Quake pack, extract it like you would a .zip file, stick all the .oggs in a music folder in your Id1 folder and remove the first 0 in each file name.
Similar process for the mission packs, just don't put them in the Id1 folder.

I'm working on my laserchucks and I'm having a couple issues with the DECORATE script. My first pass actually worked not bad except for the fact that it absolutely stunlocked anything due to the rapid-fire nature of swinging sweet laserchucks around so fast.

The problems I'm running into now is sound clipping and the fact that enemies get stunlocked too easily due to the A_Saw routine being called every 3 ticks instead of 4 like the chainsaw. At 4 ticks the animation plays way too slowly, however. For the sound, even setting the limit to 0 in SNDINFO doesn't seem to help, but I'm kind of less worried about the sound and moreso worried about the stunlocking. Here's the current code:

Trying to tackle a problem:

I'd like to do a blackpoint fade / erosion and so far the only method I've found is the Modulation alpha style (I think it's like the overlay blending mode) in Textures. The issue with this is that it does less and less the more layers you add so it needs like 10 patches of the same graphic to erode it enough which makes a messy textures lump that's going to be difficult to navigate with more than one particle.

You'd think that a simple translation would work, but black to white aren't in one cohesive range so that would take multiple bullshit translations, and you can't define multiple points or the position of points on the gradients for translation either.

what I meant to say was the rocket impact sound effect keeps being cut off near the end and it's VERY noticeable. same with plasma balls and BFG balls but it's less so. I initially thought this had to with GZD's sound settings but, upon closer look with ZD's settings they are about the same.

I booted up d64_wmi_alt.pk3 by anon and it's same old deal. Only difference being the plasma and BFG ball impact sounds being cutoff is much, much more noticeable this time around. I really don't know what might be causing it.

well I guess I'll give that a try now. and yeah this is with no mods loaded. strangely enough, this issue

a) is present on GZDoom and only in it
b) affects ONLY vanilla sound effects and its derivatives. for example per kristian's sound enhancement mod, PSX sound effects and basically everything that relates to projectile impact sounds (either from monsters or weapons) or outright replaces them.

^regarding that I only just now found that monster projectile sounds are cut off too. yeah I had my doubts to boot, but yeah. this is definitely related to GZDoom's sound stuff. Maybe it has to do with the dev builds themselves?

again, no fucking idea what this might be. it's truly frustrating.

just use slade and put your new textures between TT_START and TT_END

dont even have to bother with TEXTURES or patch tables or anything, they just straight up show up in doom64 builder.

if you use new ANIMDEFS you gotta copy paste all the original animdefs from the doom64 wad though, otherwise the old animated shit wont work.

I'm trying to be subtle with my new textures, editing existing doom64 textures where possible. Even using the legit fonts for any sign-writing so it fits right in.

might as well pull the camera back and up so the gun isn't resting under your cheekbones and attach the barrels to a metal box so you can add stuff to it, like one of those heatshields with the holes extending over the barrels a tad, and add some random pipes

i think the term for adding random shit onto basic shapes in 3d modelling is called kit bashing. maybe greebling fits but i think that's mostly just adding rectangular prisms

you should also subdivide and smooth the outer faces of the cylinders at some point and put a bevel on the edge loops so the corners catch light like a real object, unless you want to keep it low poly

it might be too much but here's an idea

have a higher frame count animation for a spin up / down, even if it's only for a few ticks, just enough to see the individual barrels moving and understand what's happening, and then when it's fully firing use a different model that's smeared so the front / back of the barrels change from circles to oblong crescents or a rounded tear drop. this way they'll look very fast and it won't look like it's just flashing.
