There aren't many female characters in Mario 64 so it's definitely low in polygins count.
Now, Ogre Battle 64 on the other hand...
But even so, if you want a good early polyginal game you might want to play Asuka 120% on Saturn, there's quite a lot of female characters in there, Dead or Alive is also a good choice, but PS has Ayane too so the polygin count is higher than the Saturn version.

Almost as equally as any 3D PS1 game I guess, and that's mostly because the game's "level design" mostly consists of land and water with a mostly subdued color scheme.

Virtua Fighter 2 still holds up amazingly well. It ran in the Saturn's high resolution 704x480 mode and did it at 60fps. In 2016 the higher resolution and framerate makes it look so much better in person compared to other games, like later N64 titles, that were considered graphically "superior" at the time. They might have more polygons and effects but today that low res mess that often struggles to run at even 20fps looks god awful.

So yeah, ironically enough one of the best 3D games of that generation is a fucking early Saturn title.

Yeah I suppose a "polygonal" game is from when polygons were a big deal. It's kind of a given from the 32 bit era onwards.

I used to love Castle Master. That was my first experience with polygons in that age. Then Starwing I guess.

I played mario64 for the first time since the 90s a year ago, and I really enjoyed it. I'm currently playing through Parasite Eve on my vita, and I'm enjoying that, too. But if there wasn't any nostalgia associated with those games for me, I probably wouldn't like them as much.

I'd rather have the pixelated and melty PS1 graphics over the N64's foggy, blurry and repetitive graphics.

Then there's the argument that PS1 style graphics are in again, while N64 graphics are just bland old 3D.

Yeah, I do play many of my favorite 5th gen games almost annually.

Silent Hill, Ocarina Of Time, Mario 64, System Shock 2 ... all just as good (if not better) as back in the days. Pic quite related; could live with just a handful of these titles.

AA is not the issue. In fact, it's one of the better features of N64.
There's just these pointless layers of secondary blur, that really washes out the image in many N64 games. And to that, that new HDMI mod is the fix.
