What advantages does the game give to bots on Godlike? Increase all their bot stats to maximum?

>> No.3377679

I always try to play unreal gold but find it boring compared to Doom/Quake. It tries to be like Half-Life and explaining the story through the environments, but the characters are so bullet-spongy and the weapons from what I played were pretty boring. Not sure if it's worth a playthrough.

Not even half. You can make custom bots with max stats who never miss a shot, dodge anything that isn't hitscan or have a big AOE, and lock onto you as soon as they have LOS, even if they're not looking at you.

Difficulty wise, they're fucking broken.

For me, Unreal is the best combo of old and new. Just enough abstract mapping to make things interesting and give mappers freedom, while at the same time just realistic enough so you could make out what each location supposed to be.

Enemies feel much less bulletspongy once you get to know how to dispose of them and expand your arsenal enough.

Also visuals are consistantly gorgeous throughout the game. HL may have more detailed environments, but Unreal just had much better visual design.

Also dont ever use HD textures. I dunno how they managed it, but it makes everything look uglier. HD textures and low-polu environments just dont mix I guess. Oh and it ruins detail texturing, so it ends up being less detailed up close (picrelated is how it works in Unreal gold by default)

HD textures makes every game uglier, which is why modern graphics are so fucking terrible, they try to squeeze in these fucking 5000GB megatexture bullshit into every square inch of the game.

Unreal got it exactly right and games shouldn't fucking need to look any better than Unreal did.

Thanks to everyone who's ever played, suggested ways to improve the server, spread our info around on youtube, old school forums, shared videos, etc!

Hey /v/, since September 28th 2010, I've been hosting servers for UT99 and UT2004, and now I host Jedi Knight III: Jedi Academy with JK2 maps as well.
My User Name: InspecktahDeck - Steam Group Name: Speck's Unreal /V/idya. You don’t need the steam version to play, but having steam lets you receive announcements when we play. Discussion boards are now on the group page for users to discuss the games, servers, or suggest tweaks/changes, with some other fun stuff. If you have any problems joining, please post them in the thread, or steam group.

Here's a question for y'all.

Would you rather have UT4 be the final Unreal game with a guarantee that the gameplay/characters/environments/music are all as great as 99 and 2004, with a long lasting community?

Or would you chance UT4's quality for the possibility of an Unreal 3 that's much like the original with some added features?

For what it's worth, we used to play it on DC a lot as teens. I'd always annihilate my friends when complaing on PC, even when they were "secretly" going 2vs1 on my me. On Dreamcast it evened things a little and made for more fair match.

The game was prone to lag but I really enjoyed the exclusive maps. I even pretty much "stole" the layout of one of them to make a Duke Nukem 3D deathmatch map.

Akimbo instagib is fun, but it tends to bug out and have you spawn without any weapons once you change maps.

Excessive Unreal 2 for crazy shit.

Excessive Unreal Tournament (different from excessive Unreal 2) for hilariously OP vanilla weapons.

Carry The Flag to prevent stalemates in CTF games and for a more exciting flag return process.

OldSkool Amp's for Unreal 1 weapons in UT99.

Arena Match so you can play with only weapon in a map with any weapon you choose.

Rockets UT for fun rocket launchers.

Who pushed me? so that people you push off the edge count as kills for you, not suicides for them. A little buggy, but very useful for DM and TDM.

Unreal 4 Ever for crazy weapons.

What is it about Unreal Tournament that makes it so great?

>> No.3443601

Unreal 1 before the Tournament was a great concept that was poorly executed.

When you've played a game like Doom (the weapons do nasty damage to your enemies and your enemies do nasty damage to you right back,) Unreal 1 is a huge let down.

I don't like "begging permission" to kill an enemy that is programmed to jump out of the way every time a rocket loads or locks on. That feels very mechanical and takes me out of the playing experience.

Doom was also thick with enemies on Ultra Violence and Nightmare. The weaponry you had was up to the task of taking on that many foes as long as you didn't waste ammo.

Unreal is lonely and sparse and your foes are almost tanks (probably to make up for the lack of them. The game engine must not have been up to the task.)

If a First Person Shooter ever has an engine that can handle a sniper rifle or machine gun ripping up the unarmored targets that get shot with it, it will be a hit.

Arena shooters are faster and simpler, with larger arrays of weapons that can all be carried at the same time. They tend to be very straightforward and the skill ceiling is based heavily on your aiming ability and reading opponents.

Modern shooters tend to have larger arrays of weapons and equipment, but only a few can be used at any given time. They tend to have far larger maps (often with dynamic elements) and somewhat higher lethality. The skill ceiling is based heavily on properly using the map elements and team-wide tactics.

pretty sure bots function with an aimbot on any difficulty, just with more or less rounding and delays to give the illusion of imprecision

as for wallhacks, bots don't use some kind of visual analysis so they don't need to "see" though walls. they will rather take your position straight from the game's data. and either ignore or not the fact that the path between you and them is blocked by a wall

Half of the domination maps don't work too well with bots. Maps such as Gharden, Sesmar and Gearbolt have capture points that bots don't try to capture as often as they should and are too easy to camp, like in this screenshot.

With Gharden, its because the middle and top points are too close together, making the bots converge around them and let the top point rot. Hell, I ususally run laps between middle and bottom because of how close they are to each other.

With Gearbolt, the top point is just too far away for most bots to care.

Sesmar, I'll give you that. Defending the side points is piss easy because bots will rarely go to them. Then again, Sesmar isn't too hot of a level. (I still like it)

Also, are you using the "enhanced Team AI" option? I've found it makes the bots play Domination better.

A thing about UT that always charmed me was the fact that in the context of the game all the violence was just a sport. When it came out that was really interesting for me because if my mom tought all that violence wasn't good for me I could use the excuse that it was a sport.

Dunno what my mom would had said back in the day

The default orders tend to be find most of the time in CTF. I usually set the bot that follows you by default as either offence or defense, depending on the role I'm taking.

I haven't really tried out out much in Domination. Does it help having some sent to defense and offense instead of them all going freelance?

Wat do?
Also my mouse seems laggy, direct input is on and stuff. Are there some .ini's that I should fetch?

Mouse acceleration?

It's weird. Everything aside from direct input and mouselook is off, but it still feels like there's acceleration going on and flicking with the mouse definitely has a lag to it. Using the Direct3d rendering, software almost feels better, regarding the aiming.

Weirdly, I'm having similar issues with UT2004; is it because I'm used to CS and quake/reflex having instant turning with absolutely no lag?

No, you definitely have something wrong. Did you change mouse sensitivity and smoothing?

I did all the usual things.
Anyways, I think that it's running "as intended" and I'm just being picky. The aiming in counterstrike and Reflex feels 100% responsive and "right" to me, Unreal and UT2004 just seem to be a bit laggy.

Anyways, since gamespy is dead, how do you peeps play Unreal MP?

Is that from the normal "find multiplayer games" in the menu? It still works for me and I can still see many servers online.

Yes, find multiplayer games. This is the Unreal Gold GoG version that I've installed today.

Get the game from somewhere else, maybe it'll also fix your mouse problems.

I'm talking about Unreal, not UT. From what I've gathered, 227i for Unreal was released on [11.11.2012].

I'm glad we managed to get a UT thread to the post limit.

speaking of which, is there some kind of afps general somewhere? I know that dirty bomb and overmeme have theirs, but it's a bummer that quakers, xonotic, reflex, unreal players etc. don't have a place for discussion.

Use the updated openGL renderer for all unreal engine games.

The Doom thread is supposed to be for other classic FPS games, but 99% of it is Doombabies jerking each other off.
