this is pretty bad because

- not enough ammo for maxkills

- even if there were, there's a monster spawner, so you're left with just ending the map as soon as possible

- but in that case, there is only 30 seconds or less of gameplay, you need more than just "shoot 4 keens and a romero surrounded by nazis stuck together"

- if by some insanity you decide to do your job as doomguy and clear the monsters before leaving, the huge crowd of floaters from high up the map sides constantly block movement. very poorly thought out gameplay.

BD's Doom 4 mod is ironically the most lackluster of the Doom 4 weapon mods so far. It feels more like a reskin of the standard BD weapons than anything, even with the upgrades. I'm more hyped for the one dbthanatos is making. Xaser's is also pretty good and way better than Mark's version.

feels so good to finally scratch something off your bucket list after so many hours worth of work put into it!

so here it is, a new version of SD-weaponsonly.pk3. I'm still all in for adding in new features to add or whatever people ask for I guess, but that's probably gonna have to take the backseat for a while as I'm busy with work on Shadow of the Woolball 2. Huge, HUGE guts to gifty for helping me out with the ACS code for the 64 plasma and bfg and supporting this mod all along the ride.

2) The actual difference in terminal ballistics between .45ACP and 9mm Luger is not noteworthy if they're fired from a similarly long barrel

Dunno, dunno. First is sorta shortie involving lighting, shotgun/chaingun and some tysoning. I kinda wanna do it to just use the midi and kinda bridge the library I made for Dump and the previous water-themed map where you die at the end. 2nd is kinda idea of map03 slot ( despite the music if anyone recognizes it ). I really do need some fresh vegetation for it, and I am awful with props. No idea how to use Dehacked or Decorate. 3rd is uh, the idea I had for IoS map, but it's probably gonna be a proper map - although keeping the themes. ( also, if anyone knows the midi playing, sauce )
4th is the castle which I had, which is about half-way done... Layout wise. Christ, it is rather large, but I liked how exploratory it ended up.

Heck you don't even need to do that. More than one person has shown off a way to do it actorless by using ACS to mathematically determine how high up on a monster a shot impacted.

I'd argue against that, in classic doom games if the player wants to run straight for the exit, 90% of the time he has that option and can just skirt around conflict. Whereas in Doom 4, you're often forced to fight, and while I prefer beating up every monster for that satisfying 100% kill count, some people prefer just making a break for it, they don't have that option in Doom 4.

Though on the flipside not even the toughest of monsters in Doom 4 can withstand much firepower before keeling over, removing that slog that the original Doom can suffer from at times depending on map layout. Fucking barons.

I personally thought that, if there was one thing they nailed thorough, that would be the fluidity of the fights themselves. moving through the environments while switching guns/mods depending on what you're going to go for feels pretty fucking slick. That coupled by the monsters' mobility and the platformer-esque design of some of the arenas makes for some pretty good fights. general movement could do being a lot fucking faster though (why is there even a haste sphere as a working mechanic? why not just make the base player speed as fast as that, or turn it into a dexterity upgrade?)

I originally posted the update to the Dual Cannons in the dump3 thread at the zdoom forums and I decided to post the update here because why the fuck not.

-Changed the sounds, hopefully theyre better now
-Main fire almost completely changed, the cannon ball it fires now isnt affected by gravity and explodes on impact, but the explosion is not as powerful as the explosion of the other cannonball.
-Alt fire has also changed, just a bit, speed of the cannonball increased and now it takes 17 ticks to detonate (almost half a second)

So I'm playing Brutal Doom for the first time. I know, I'm late to the party, but it's an amazingly fun mod.

However, one thing kinda irks me about it. Is it just me, or does the BFG feel really underpowered compared to its vanilla counterpart? The damage it deals with a direct hit seems appropriate, but the splash damage to surrounding enemies is incredibly underwhelming. It feels more efficient to take out high priority targets with charged plasma rifle shots instead.

Am I doing something wrong?

Requesting Heretic monster ideas for my Trailblazer expanded compatibility/monster pack.

Unlike a lot of monster randomizers, this one will allow you to individually enable/disable new variants from replacing the standard monster, and even let you set the chance of enabled variants spawning. It also has some more features like enabling 'pistol start', choosing what weapon you want to spawn at a spawn point, enabling you to carry healing items, and I've ported over my Smart Scavenger mod to it as well.

Man this map sucks. I got to the silver door but forgot to get the silver key beforehand and had to backtrack a shitload. There's a long and linear string of corridors, rooms and slow-ass lifts connecting the gold door to the silver door which makes the backtracking bad. And the placement of the silver key is also poor, you'll easily forget to take it if you go straight for the gold key first. The level assumes that the player will enter the room with the gold door first, find himself locked, go back out, then discover that a previously blocked door has opened, leading to the silver key. Lots of rigid assumptions on what the player will do and notice and the flow breaks down if they are not met. Coming from the rest of the Quake maps, it's surprising how flawed the design is in this level, and it's even more surprising since Romero designed it. This is easily one of his weakest maps, along with E1M9 in Doom.

i don't see why any self-respecting modder would bother using an r667 monster as-is. i use it as a library of sprites/sounds and look at the existing code as a reference for how it was intended to work, but nothing more. most of them are either obnoxiously op, stupidly set-up, or just have weird/haphazard behavior that doesn't feel like it belongs in doom.

Still working on my TC.
I've been toying with the idea of making these weapons standalone and able to be used on traditional Doom maps, rather than being restricted to the included maps.

This would allow me to focus on the weapons first while still feeling out what sort of maps/enemies would be good to compliment them, and it'd give people the ability to keep on playing after they're done with the campaign.

Well the weapon skins are different, pistol is completely changed - earlier versions I'm guessing. Although pistol is probably newer as it's more powerful, which makes sense since in vanilla you literally never use it.
Also someone above posted about Doom 3 having low on ammo and I wish this fucking newfag casual cancer. On veteran there's plenty of ammo and you virtually never have to resort to shotgun, let alone pistol. Grenades are fucking infinite, rockets are plenty. Why would you even use them, when the game is too easy without them?

lots of ports have "controller support," but it sucks.

1. Almost always, consoles have some sort of deadzone/acceleration/I don't know formula deal applied to their joysticks, making console shooters feel much better than trying to use a controller on a PC.
And since with Doom you only have to aim left right, stick shooting is much more viable.

2. 360 version has variable moving speed based on how much you were pressing the joystick.

But then you hear spiderdemons coming to join the side of the government - those are tanks.

Or you could have a small wad about being a Bitza killer, with just hammer and vodka. Searching for imps to make them phantom via intoxication and kill with a hammer near the sewer holes (this could be made as an altar - killing enemies near it gives you berserk points). You'd have to run away from police demons. Also victims can survive and then haunt you as zombies.

Dunno about you guys, but I really like it when a mapset offers a challenge. Something like Plutonia, Alien Vendetta, Kama Sutra or Speed of Doom. I always find it very engaging when a map requires me to keep on my toes, because it could potentially kill me if my let my guard down.

Easy stuff like the Original Doom and the first half of Scythe are fun too. But they're not very exciting to play, since I know I'm not going to die much, if at all. Can feel a bit monotonous without any major standout moments to me in a gameplay perspective.

I would say the opposite, actually. AEOD's biggest problem is not the lack of polish, it's that it's a giant grabbag of stuff thrown together without any rhyme or reason.

Finished TVR!.wad recently

Wasn't too bad of a 32-map megawad though it's fairly generous with armor, ammo, and hazard suits. It seems to go out of its way to make some fancy details like literal monster condos, swimming pools, and interactive torture chambers.

It's long enough that they could demand for higher minimum specs than DN3D, but short enough for them to be competitors.

It's ripped from the alpha, which I'm downloading so I can get the rest of it. The guy I got these from has all the mods loaded so the shotgun and pistol have some issues but I've cut away a lot of it for the pistol.

Last I saw the only issues with Doom 4 Alpha model ripping were no UVs, no textures, and the newest FBX format that a lot of people couldn't use.

I just stuck a solid colour on it and made it shiny, close enough.
