Has a game ever left you with a feeling you're unable to describe? Like you see the visuals, hear the audio, you see it and appreciate it in one sense but then feel something deep down that you're unable to put into words.

Guess I could describe it as "mystery" when I first played it back in 96 as a kid. Still hold that nostalgic feeling whenever I play it. The rest of the series feels like a dumb action movie.

I know that feel. this game was heart-warming, yet eerie. comfy/unsettling. but for some reason, all the eerie parts were not eerie enough to get rid of this general warm feeling you get from the game.

I've tried a long time to analyze why this game is just so satisfying and addictive and alluring, but I always come up short

all versions of jikkyou have the commentator that constantly nags on as you play the game

and he talks a LOT. like. A LOT.

i don't understand japanese so whatever he says goes above me but i love collecting fairies and just hearing "yaaaaay" each time

Genesis version.

Mine goes a step further and I wonder if that feeling even exists at all deep down inside. I play this game in one sitting probably every other 2-3 years and I can honestly say that I receive very very little enjoyment from it. I don't dislike it or think it's a chore either, but I always find myself asking why I'm playing this game AGAIN halfway through it.

Killer fucking OST btw.

Harvest Moon 64 is important. It has such a melancholy feeling. I was drawn in and didn't leave for months.

That's because HM64 was a remarkably mature game that dealt with relatively complex themes about aging, regret, loneliness, failure, struggle, and the passing of time. IAWL came close but never quite felt right.

The franchise lost its way with its sequels, becoming fixated on the core gameplay loop rather than the atmosphere and characters that made it feel substantive.

this
It had some sad undertones but also this feeling of struggle and making happiness out of what you have. There also was this magical element, like something spiritual, especially during some of the cutscenes at festivals or when you're talking with your significant other about life.

This. Terranigma feels much more significant than other RPGs. I think it's because it is set on earth and not some fantasy world. It's so much more relatable. After playing it I was infatuated with maps and globes and our world in general. So awesome.
