The SFC version of the beat 'em up has more levels doesn't it? Anyway I also grew up with the MD version and I love it. Pretty comfy game.

However, I think the actual best SM game I played was the SuperS fighting game on SFC.

I still haven't played Another Story though.

For a licensed anime rpg its good it just has some balancing issues at some points, game is pretty comfy, good graphics, decent amount of voices, and some pretty good original music

There is some pretty obscure CD ost of this game and it makes me imagine of what this game might sound like on the Saturn or ps1

They're all pretty damn fun, the Fuwa Fuwa Panic and rest of the puzzle games especially. Fuwa Fuwa Panic 2 is my favorite and I still load it up for a quick play.

Another Story is actually pretty nice. It's a mishmash of the anime and manga plotlines with some original stuff mixed in (but some of that original stuff is rendered obsolete by developments later in the series. Mamoru's "Rose Crystal" in AS vs his actual Golden Crystal in the manga/anime being the perfect example) so that can be confusing for people that aren't familiar with both. The translation is okay but it's shitty in the fact that they use Japanese terms for plot elements that already have established English names. If you know who TV-Nihon is you'll understand what I mean. Ginzuishou for Silver Crystal, Barazuishou as Rose Crystal, etc.

Gameplay-wise, the framework for a great game is there with multitechs, status effects and formations but it doesn't matter because the game isn't really balanced properly and you have to resort to grinding/item-spamming to beat most of it.

It's a shame because just letting the plethora of mostly useless dual/triple techs end in buffs/debuffs or inflict status effects would make a world of a difference. Hell, they could have literally just made up moves for people like Sailor Saturn that just had one special move. The music is great though, since the anime's composer worked on it and the graphics are pretty nice as well.

If you haven't watched it, Crystal S3 is almost an unbelievable improvement over the first two seasons. There's a new director that's proving to be someone who actually likes Sailor Moon. The only bad thing is that they kept on the shit same-song composer.

How are the transformation sequences in the 3rd season? it really bothered me how they botched them in the first one and I had to stop watching.

They're okay. Sailor Moon's and Sailor Chibi-Moon's are definitely the best of the bunch. The Inners are varied with Jupiter and Venus' looking the most awkward. They most definitely traced over some of the Inners' CG transformations as well.

You can tell they still have a budget problem but they do a better job of stretching the money.

Also, Crystal is still an almost straight adaption of the manga so no, I'm sorry to say that there aren't any of the good, fun SoL episodes you're accustomed to from the original anime.

If you want some good reviews as a preface to watching Crystal S3 then try checking out CJ vs Manga on Youtube. She did a good job of shitting on Crystal S1/S2 but likes S3 and also does a good job of comparing the episodes to the manga.
