I want a copy of this game ASAP. Anyone know if it is available on disk yet? I heard you can download the d64 for a donation on the developers website. Will probably be downloading some time today. Does anyone know if the game will run on NTSC or is it PAL only?

the craziest thing about commodore 64 is the fact that there are still games being dug up from the past that most people might not realize existed and are some of the best arcade style 8 bit games ever made. there's nothing like booting up my c64 and loading a quick pick up and play game from the sd2iec. it still blows me away how many games were made and are still being made. i'm discovering new games that i want to replay all the time. i highly recommend that anyone with real hardware get an sd2iec or 1541 ultimate II, it really brings new life to an old computer platform especially if you plan on programming in basic.

Going to try it soon and ill let you know what I think.

>>3299798
Just played Kabura on an NTSC 64C so not sure if the game was running at the correct speed (it seemed a bit fast) but I will give my ZZap!64 style review based on what I played:

>PRESENTATION
60% - Decent title screen but no scoreboard or high score counter.
>GRAPHICS
67% - background scrolling doesn't look the greatest, sprite animation is choppy and fast (could be NTSC issue) but overall it looks (and plays) a lot like Kung Fu Master and Rapid Fire.
>SOUND
48% - Title screen music is great but there is no music in game and the sound effects are awful, 2600-esque but even worse like LCD game bad.
>HOOKABILITY
73% - If you like Kung Fu Master or Rapid Fire then you are going to enjoy the game.
>LASTABILITY
60% - The game isn't very difficult so if you are good at these kind of games then you could probably beat it after the 2nd or 3rd play.
>OVERALL
63% - This game would be better if there weren't already two other games with near identical gameplay which are more challenging and addictive. That being said, as a freeware game in 2016 I think it's worth checking out. It has potential to be better so maybe Sputnik World could improve the game if enough people show interest.

you can search by release date on csdb but i'm sure you'll get a lot of cracks of older games in the mix. there are still release groups doing NTSC fixes and new trainers for new and old games as well.

gamebase64 is another site/emulator frontend you can search by release year. It's actually probably the best way to do it.

Check out Psytronik Software, they've been putting out the best recent C64 games. Here's a list of their titles worth checking out:

Released:
X-Force
Darkness
The Vice Squad
Knight n' Grail (obviously)
Soulless
Eye of the Gods
Hessian
Guns 'n' Ghosts
Sceptre of Baghdad
Flubble & Squij

Also get yourself the latest gamebase and there's a utility that converts the gamebase into a folder structure suitable for the sd2iec. You can order new diskette games from binaryzone, or you can buy an interface for your disk drive to connect to your main computer and burn your own games. The problem with the latter is you need to buy diskettes on ebay, and they can cost a dollar or two per disk. If you go that route, make sure you get DD format disks, and you could also get a network interface instead of the disk drive interface. The benefit being you can connect to the internet in addition to burning disks, the disadvantage being they cost more.

Don't bother with the networking, it's a headache it's expensive and its not that practical when the obvious and more convenient option is simply getting an SD card IDE device. There are 3 main options, sd2iec which is the most common and most affordable, the uiec from Jim Brain which is around the same cost as sd2iec but is harder to find however its a bit better because it has a daughterboard which lets you daisychain IEC drives and peripherals making copying to floppies quick and easy. The third and best but most expensive option is tracking down a 1541 Ultimate II which actually plugs into your cartridge slot. It's compatible with all software but costs around $250-300 if you can find one first. The other two options are commonly found on eBay between $70-$100

What's the best way to emulate a C64 ? I was gonna buy an actual one off eBay or someshit but they're way over priced because of "muh collection " faggots. Also, was there any C64 Collection type releases on modern consoles ?

Keep checking craigslist. Don't forget to be checking garage sale listings as well. If you live in North America you are also going to want to track down an additional PAL hardware at some point. Or you could just go for the PAL first but you are going to pay a good bit and you're going to need to use ebay.

>What's the best way to emulate a C64
Hoxs64 is the best emulator.
Vice is good but the audio is broken because of sync/buffering problems. Just be sure to set your monitor to 50hz and emulator to PAL mode because 99% of games were designed for it and have problems or won't even load otherwise.
