Atari should have became an arcade dev rather than making failed consoles

Why didn't James take a piss on the thing at the end of that episode? Would have been fitting.

I just realized I've never played a Jaguar game, not even on a emulator.

Wierd shit.

Jaguar had Tempest 2000, Gex, and some Harvest Moon-like farming game that looked neat.

Oh yeah definitely. Just saying that if you found a Jaguar on the side of the road it would be worth dusting off and plugging in for at least a couple of games.

Jaguar had the only decent port of Wolfenstein 3D on a console, so it had that going for it.

That's Doom. Wolfenstein on jaguar had music.

Most people never even heard of the Jag or 3do back in the 90s. Even the game magazines only gave them super spotty coverage in some corner.

>> No.3280638

>>3280161
The Jaguar itself had a few decent ones, the CD attachment was tripe though.

>>3280193
I recall the 3DO port of Wolf3D was pretty good too, sans an early recall due to a compile error.

>>3280196
In regards to Doom, which didn't feature music during gameplay, that was basically a hack by Carmack, the console would use the processing power which would otherwise had been used for music, to help with running the game logic and rendering, which is why the framerate is pretty smooth on that port.

>>3280183
I heard you could find them for about $30 or so in used game stores during the early 2000's.

And considering the game cartridge on the Jag CD makes it look like the tank on the toilet. So it's more toilet-like than the CD-X.

Confirmed never owning one. They do break often, and if they break, good fucking luck repairing one - it is so dense in custom components. There's a reason why you have broken CDX's up on ebay pretty much all the time.

Not him, but I got a CDX (With the original PSU) that wouldn't read games back in 2008 for a deal, got its lens completely replaced and worked fine for about a year, then back to exactly the same spot as it was when I got it -- would either read nothing or would start to read for a while and games would just lock up very early on. Anecdotal, yes, but that's my experience and I don't intend on spending another $50 or whatever to get it replaced again.

Meanwhile I've been using a model 2 Sega CD and an X'Eye for about 4 years now and I've never had a problem with either one.

I think the devs that ported NBA Jam to the Jaguar also used the same DSP hack to make the game run a little faster.

They're the 15 pin "atari enhanced joystick port". It's similar to the PC game port in functionality (and can handle analog joysticks), but they wanted them reduced in form factor to something resembling the old 9 pin atari joystick port used by the 2600.

He's right though, Atari is better with computers and Arcades
