These days, it's hard to say. If you don't like grinding and random battles, then there is practically nothing on the NES that will hold your interest (unless you are more interested in action RPGs like Zelda 2, Crystalis, and the like).

I can't really get into any of them on the NES, though the WS/GBA/PSP remakes of FF1 and 2 + the DS remake of FF3 were quite nice.

Anon, it is out of love that I must inform you that all menu-driven JRPGs on the NES are grindey timesinks which have aged like spilt milk.

The NES has far too many good top/side adventure games to waste your time with such things.
