A HUGE BATTLESHIP
KING FOSSIL
IS APPROACHING FAST

>> No.3273404

Darius is an euro shmup that gives you a million shields and levels as an excuse for poor game design.

Nah, it's from this barely functioning webpage: http://kgw31520.sakura.ne.jp/gallery.htm

No other Darius art on there, but a few other decent STG ones.

Thanks anon.

>Neon Light Illusion
Fighting his second phase without autofire or fast fingers is suffering. Every video I see just destroys it before it can get a single shot off while I need to waste a bomb on it.

No prob.

Yeah, Gaiden is rather frustrating in that regard. w/o turbofire you're just making your hand suffer for no good reason whereas with it, you're just trivializing the entire game. Still one of my all-time favorites, so it's a very minor flaw regardless.

>That feel when you hear the full version of Induction for the first time

A simple stage select theme has no right being that beautiful.

I've bee getting into shmups lately, mainly playing Ikaruga, are any other shmups this well designed or are they al mindless shooting? Don't see many other games that look too interesting.

As long as you attack with the correct weapons, the second form can't do fuck all. Bombs and Vulcan will do more damage than laser or wave, so make sure you have as many bomb powerups and that you have one of the wave+2vulcan weapons (or the triple mini wave, which is much more powerful than the wide green wave after it).

Using the wave+2vulcan weapon with autofire can kill most bosses before they can really attack you, especially with autofire. The triple mini wave can do that too, but it really depends on how close the enemy is to the right edge of the level.

>are any other shmups this well designed or are they al mindless shooting?

No, not really. While knowing enemy patterns and where to position yourself will make all shmups significantly easier, very few have a chain system as intricately designed as Ikaruga has.
Radiant Silvergun comes to mind, but it's much worse because it FORCES you to chain; you fuck that up and you won't get enough weapon points to be able to beat the game. Keep in mind that Ikaruga was basically Project Radiant Silvergun 2, and it shows, the two titles are polar opposites in so many ways (maximalist vs minimalist design).

There are of course some games which are just plain fucking stupidly difficult, and you need Ikaruga level pattern memorization just to *survive*. Which is honestly much worse.

>> No.3274642

>>3274587
You can play Ikaruga mindlessly, too. Don't fall for the "methodical masterpiece" meme just because some autist can control both ships at the same time while scoring well.

>> No.3274683

Karous is Ikaruga done right.

>> No.3274701

>>3274642
But that's exactly what makes it a masterpiece. If you couldn't play it casually, then it would be just another autist puzzler like Touhou.

Nah, people call it a masterpiece because they unironically like its shitty scoring system. Or if they're IGN, they just like it for the music and presentation.

What >>3276710 said, along with:
Truxton
Thunder Force 2 and 4(ESPECIALLY 4!)
Lightening Force
Zero Wing(Infamously Engrish opening aside)
Gley Lancer
Battle Mania 1 and 2(known in the West as Trouble Shooter)
Those are most of the best ones, though there are plenty of other solid ones to play too.

I have TF Gold Collection 2 in the mail. It has Thunderforce 3 and 4 on it... with slowdowns eliminated, so possibly not as much fun as the original versions.

Oddly I never bothered getting into the earlier TF games, despite TF V being one of my favourite shmups.
