I found this JVC TM-H1375SU
13-INCH COLOR VIDEO MONITOR
for $25.00

Its my first time trying not to be a emulator fag. Is this a good deal? How do you guys feel about the all screens? Most importantly , will this thing take standard SNES mini component cables or not?

Is 13" just to small for solo gaming?

>> No.3271918

>>3271912

On a base level, no, but if you get into any text-heavy games (RPGs specifically) you could potentially have a hard time reading the text.

>> No.3271921

>>3271905

It seems OK.

>>3271908

Those are BNC onnectors in case you haven't met them. They take composite video, you just need a passive adaptor.

S-Video input is also a plus.

It's not wonderful, but it looks functional.

What confuses me is the fact that it only has 2 spots for component cable and not 3. ??? Seller claims its in mint condition though.

Thank you how much is this " passive adapter " I know I need to mod my SNES mini to s-video eventually. I just would like to be able to hook up and go. Because right now I'm playing on a 19' Clear tunes LED flat screen tv that you get in prison.

The things labeled "Video A" and "Video B" Are where your video signal goes. Your most consumer-user friendly connection there is S-video, which is on Video B. Like someone else mentioned A and B also have BNC connectors but those are more commonly found in pro video applications, which so far it seems you're unfamiliar with.

The audio uses a standard RCA plug, but it doesn't seem that stereo input is available, if what I'm presuming is correct. Depending on what A/B video input you select you will get a monoaural result from Audio A or B. I don't think you can make A and B L and R stereo.

Monitors aren't primarily audio playback devices. They were meant to "monitor" video feeds with high precision for broadcast, editing, etc. The way it's supposed to work is you have a standalone amp or preamp/amp that connects to your game system for external sound playback.

>> No.3271984

I don't think you'll have trouble reading since the resolution will be the same as on a bigger tv. However be aware that 13-inch will is one smallllll-ass tv screen, even 14-inch is just too small, in my opinion you should get a bigger one.

I swear. Anons buying shit they know nothing about because some you-celeb told them it's the only way to play things before their time. If you are having to scratch your head over how to plug in your professional TV, perhaps you should ask yourself if you got your priorities straight.

Well, that also looks like a pretty standard (read: crappy) CRT anyway. Even when they were new, it was obvious that there were huge problems with lower end sets, and even cheap CRTs made in the 2000s were barely better than cheap sets of the early 90s.

Different guy, but I actually look for those portable Watchman-type TVs that have 5" or less screens. Then again, those aren't my main gaming televisions, but they can be quite fun.

>> No.3272132

>>3271908
It doesn't have RGB nor component inputs so that's a minus.
It's still a pretty OK monitor to play in most unmodified retro consoles with standard AV cables.

>>3272098
>>3272132
It's actually RF-only.

>> No.3272195

It's probably worth it for $25, assuming that includes shipping or a <60 min round trip drive. Check for phosphor burn in, i.e. "00:00:00", "CAMERA B" or the like permanently burned into the screen, and scratches on the glass since those are not fixable.

An "RCA to BNC" adapter will let you plug in composite. You need a female RCA to male BNC connector. That monitor will take S-video too, no adapter needed. This particular monitor does not take RGB or component inputs, making it less desirable.

Professional monitors tend to have really shit, mono sound, so you'll probably want an "RCA to 3.5mm" adapter so you can plug it into whatever 2.1 computer speakers or similar.

13" is fine for everything actually /vr/ (no dreamcast), so long as you sit really close to the screen. It works on top of a desk like a computer monitor etc, or in a recliner with the chair pulled all the way up until your feet or knees are touching the tv stand. Not really suitable for 2-player or comfy entertaining.

Literally every kid that was lucky enough to have a TV in his room in the 80s had a 13" and that was pretty much the only way to git gud. Sharing Dad's 24" in the brief window after Barney Miller and before Cheers was no way to live.

>> No.3272509

>>3272432
Agreed. 13" tvs were priced just right for parents who were tired of complaints and sharing, esp when gaming became more popular. There may have even been a 10" in my earlier days, which probably replaced the 3" kitchen portable..

I'm just pissy you fags get to talk about a system that is 480p NATIVE with BUILT-IN ONLINE CAPABILITY but I can't talk about a 32-BIT console at 240x160 with TWO face buttons without a bunch of fags and mods showing up in my thread.

The dreamcast is an entire world apart from the 3rd and 4th gen consoles we commonly discuss, and still quite a bit different from the 3D, 240p 5th gen stuff that is arguably "retro". The only reason it's on here was because sega mismanaged that shit into the ground and it never achieved mainstream traction like the PS2 you fags are all too hipster for. Either all 6th gen or no 6th gen on /vr/, this shit is just weeb pandering. Giving us a looser "almost retro" board with the only criteria "older than 15 years from current date" would also solve this problem.

Ahem.

But returning to the matter at hand - a 13" monitor is not a good match for the dreamcast (or other 6th gen consoles) that expect the user to be able to discern small objects in the distance for 3D games at a 640x480 native resolution. At 13" the user is basically forced to hunch over a desk, and not the standard couch or recliner enjoyment typically associated with home console gaming.

I'm no 'phile, so a simple s-video to rca Y adapter running to a junction box for retro vidya and vcr does the job. Audio out of the box to a receiver.

I should specify my s-video cable may be junk (bad connection? cheap?) so I don't have that running from monitor to box.
