Blood Thread
Recently, I've been working my way through some of the more well-known user mods since I've finally figured out how to load unofficial maps. I finished Death Wish a little bit ago and that great, I'd even go so far as to say that it's better than the base game was. 10/10 add on. Also just finished the first episode of Bloody Pulp Fiction earlier today and that's pretty good too so far. The fuckhuge levels are awesome although there are a few frustrating bits every now and then. I'd probably give it an 8/10 in quality.

Anyone have any recommendations for what to play next? It'd be cool to get an essential Blood map list or something of the sort.

Apparently it's been put on hold because he's been working on a turok 2 sourceport. I think he also did the Turok 1 remaster that was shat out onto gog and steam by Night Dive.

Have you tried RTCM and French Meat ?

RTCM goes a little overboard with cultists, so I recommend to play on skill3.
French Meat is a mixed bag but it has some great maps. They were working on a 2nd episode but I've heard it got cancelled...

Otherwise these are good too >>3267285

Have you ever used a Build map editor before? All of them work on the same base, so if you know how to make sectors in Duke3D you know how to make sectors for Blood. However, if you're asking, you probably haven't.
So the first thing you should do is find tutorials for Blood mapping, including some that explain the basic keys and features of Build.

Once you got that out of the way you can learn Blood's specifics. Each Build game works on a different system, but while being different, they're all similar (you build effects by tagging sectors and by using effect sprites and tagging them too).

You're going to have to use Blood's "mapedit" which works in DOSbox.

No. There is no sourcecode so there can't be any sourceport. He may be reverse engineering the game, but he said here that he were remaking every behaviour himself, some based on the original code, but also some "empirical".

I think at that point you have to reverse the binaries somehow, just that he's not saying that because it could land him in a funny place than serious than a one of "spoiling" the trademark.

I heard Virtual Machine did wonders, but the reason you're asking is because you can't be arsed to configure DOSbox, then this is not a solution.

However if you don't mind setting up virtual machine and the reason you're asking is because you don't get good performance in DOSbox, then it's worth checking out.

But before that you should try different DOSbox settings, or even DOSbox versions. Some people claim this does wonders (didn't make any difference for me though)

Choegh was destroyed in the first episode of Blood by Caleb and he was the leader of all gargoyles. Yeah there were some stone gargoyles afterward but in plot, Choegh was one stone gargoyle above them all. They probably went into hiding or Caleb killed them all over/thinned their numbers. The cult has plenty of shady connections and dark magic they probably just sired Choegh and he brought his gargoyle along with him.

Start a crowdfunding, but based on what exactly?!

Only someone who has access to the sourcecode and who has already made some sort of deal with the right owner with crowdfunding as backup could start a crowdfunding with some sort of base to it.

Also I am sure that, in this day and age, everyone who has tried to acquire the rights to Blood (=several publishers and devs in the past few years) have thought of the possibility of crowdfunding already.... But IIRC Atari is asking like 1 million or some bullshit unreachable amount.

Jace is nuts. This is just cocktease.

>> No.3276237

Yeah I think so too...

Honestly the more time goes on the more I think jace is full of shit.

I also think he could fully release the source code if he really wanted to and atari wouldn't give a shit, and I think he knows that. I feel like he's still trying to profit off of it in some way.

Crowdfunding for what exactly? For him to just make some phone calls and send a couple of emails just to see if he can revive the blood franchise? Eh.

I used to think EP1 was the best because the other episodes aren't as detailed.

Now I like everything. It's true that the rest isn't as detailed while the shareware episode got a special attention to it, but every level is good. Classic Build level design where you can recognize a real life looking place it's based on but the layout remains pure Doom style.

Only the 2nd half of ep5 is more abstract, but I like those too because they allowed themselves to do more crazy things they may not have been able to pull had they sticked to an IRL look.

I can't think of big level design flaws, unlike for instance the first Redneck Rampage which has hidden switches or places that look very similar you could get lost into. Only issue I can think of on top of my head is the entrance to the secret level not working properly in Overlook Hotel but that's more a coding flaw.

Blood had a lot of levels, so we can't have them all be highly detailed... but in the end I'm glad it has so many rather than fewer but more detailed. Plus there is always some kind of Build trick or cool level design or visual effect going on.

>>3277332
I think the main issue with CP is that they did not get Blood's gameplay right. It's kind of a shame because in Sunstorm's add-ons for other games (Redneck Rampage, Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior) they did get use of enemies and weapons right for each game, except not for Blood.... Gameplay in CP feels like they were trying to copy DN3D gameplay instead so it doesn't work very well. Plus supplies balancing is fucked up with too many +100hp item.

Otherwise it has some good layouts and design. I like the theater and the library very much.

Always keep a voodoo doll for gargoyles, I sometimes use them for cultists who are in the distance or hellhounds, but I mostly use them for gargoyles.
