Did Plok have the most best/most technically sophisticated soundtrack of the 8/16 bit console era?

I would personally give that award to Final Fantasy 6. That game used all 8 sound channels masterfully. Also its synth quality was perfected by that point - the Strings synth was 90% there to sounding like the real thing, and indeed sounded better than 7's synth quality.

If not the best over all, better than anything the Genesis was technically capable of doing.

SNES had a LOT of classic OSTs.

That 2nd song does sound more at home on the N64 or a CD based system TBQH.

>Streets of Rage 3's soundtrack was composed by Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima, who had both worked on Streets of Rage 2, and features influences from Detroit's hard techno scene which was popular in Tokyo nightclubs at the time of the game's development.[2] For the soundtrack, Koshiro created a new composition method called the "Automated Composing System" to produce "fast-beat techno like jungle."[3] It was among the most advanced electronic music creation technique at the time, incorporating heavily randomized sequences.[4] This resulted in innovative and experimental sounds generated automatically that, according to Koshiro, "you ordinarily never could imagine on your own." This method was very rare at the time, but has since become popular among techno and trance music producers to get "unexpected and odd sounds."[5] The soundtrack also had elements of abstract, experimental, gabber,[2] and trance music.[6]

>The game's soundtrack received a mixed reception upon release, but has since been considered to be ahead of its time. According to Mean Machines, the "music takes some getting used to – ironically it pre-dated the 'trance' era that came a short while after release."[6][5]

I love the game, but I agree. The only really fun levels are Akrillic's.

For what it's worth, Child's Play mode cuts out the entire section (unless you warp directly to Plok's house) and there's a few warps hidden inside Legacy Island.

>> No.3258953

>>3258946
if those are the levels about killing the bugs/fleas (dont remember what they were), then yes, the whole game should have been that.
the last part of the game in which you have to drive a different vehicle in each level is extremely hard and a change of pace and gameplay I didnt want.

This makes me think I should emulate it and create a save state when the fun levels begin.

Yes what Yuzo was trying to accomplish was pretty impressive, nevertheless the end product didn't really follow his ambition. There are some good songs in there sure, but most of the songs are too aggressive and at some points become physically painful to endure and don't gell well with the gameplay (a lit hyperbolic but just trying to get the point across).

And yet again this is pretty subjective. At best I have to say that it was technically impressive but a definite step down from SOR1 and 2.

The music actually used just 5.

I personally think that was a mistake on Follin's part. The in-game soundtracks sound thin and lacking in instrumentation compared to the main theme (which used all 8).

I beat Equinox

It is like a purgatory punishment for murderers who somehow avoided hell, but wont get to heaven easily.

I had fun the first 4 dungeons, but I was like, this shit is extremely hard, and I am only halfway through the game, how much harder can things get?

I had to force myself to beat it through a period of 3 months, in which I would let weeks pass between each dungeon.

I Dont recommend it. I do like Plok, at least the main game, not the tutorial and not the endgame.

>> No.3268191

What disappointed me about Equinox is that it feigns being an action RPG with an overlord and huge enemies to fight, when it's a straight dungeon crawler.

To give an example, there's enemies on the overworld you can fight, but there's only 2 different kinds, and they exist to drop health and magic power orbs in between travelling dungeons.

This is one the games that've been on my backlog for the longest time.

Time to look for something to emulate it properly.
