It was Nintendo's last conventional game console before they started over-relying on gimmicky input devices. You can tell they were mostly trying to keep up with Sony than anything else, since its new features, such as optical discs and dual analog controllers, were just stuff that the original PlayStation already had. Even the fact that memory card slots were on the console itself and not on the controller seemed like an attempt to make it more PS-like. In a weird kind of way, I kind of see it as a counterpart to Sega's Dreamcast.

And I guarantee you if we ever give into that, then immediately we'll start hearing calls to have PS3, Wii, and xbox 360 included as well.
