Speaking console-only stuff, the Super Scope was fairly accurate and easy to make precise aiming. The only downside is the 6 AA batteries it requires and the fact playing with it for long periods of time will get your arm tired.

If you're alright fucking around with some soldering you can hook up a zapper using an extension cord and a schematic, I believe the neo-geo inputs are the same as the external point on the famicom, but I don't know if they'd be as cheap as just buying a crappy broken joycard or something.

Alternatively, a lot of famiclones came with guns that will plug right into a famicom.

Depends on the type of flatscreen. Any lightgun will work perfectly on a flatscreen SD CRT, but the more common flatscreen HD CRTs with progressive modes and component inputs are usually a total bust.

>>3239878
The PS Move is almost bearable, although if you use it at close range it goes off track. You still have to rely on a cursor, so it's nowhere near as fun, but it's far better than the Wiimote and retarded aimtrak/top gun 3 trash.

>still no decent way to play light gun games at home aside from owning a dozen cabinets and consoles
VR looks like the only hope, but nobody is going to bother porting all these old games. What I wouldn't give for a Sega/Namco collection with virtual arcade cabinets playing up-to-date ports of all their old games.

The closest thing to a solution right now is fucking around with a million mame based hacks and a rare as fuck USB2GUN board.

>> No.3247418

The PS1 light gun had a breakout cable that let the gun connect to composite video. There was also stereo audio jacks.

What was the purpose of this when other systems' light guns just went into the controller port?

What technology was this?
Is this why the PS1 lightgun is considered the most accurate lightgun?

>> No.3247510

>>3247418
By connecting to the composite sync the light gun could far more accurately determine its position. This kind of set-up was common in the arcades because the gun was just a sensor and a switch while all the calculations were on the gun board inside the cabinet with a known screen of a known size and resolution.

Some random light gun notes/thoughts.

The best light gun console is PS2. It's backwards compatible so you get all the great PS1 games plus Time Crisis Sequels and Virtua Cop Elite Edition collection

2nd place (though it's not VR) is the OG Wii.

YES the PS1 light guns work on ps2.

If you are looking for a flat screen crt for light guns look for Sony Trinitron.

I previously mentioned the OG wii for light gun games. There are great games like Ghost Squad, House of the Dead 2/3 and GunbladeNY/LA Machineguns- all made by Sega aka the king of light gun games (although Time Crisis, not a sega game, is the best series- Sega wins by quantity of good games)

Additional notes regarding guns, the wii games feel much more comfortable when you get the Zapper add on. Some Wii games even work with the Cabelas gun add on. Ghost Squad is one game that works well with the Cabelas gun shell.

As for PS1/2 the best gun is the P99K blaster. It works for ps1 & 2, has recoil and a foot pedal.

Also, don't sleep on the OG Xbox. Silent scope with a full size rifle is an experience in the home

>Wii game are just barely playable on PS3

You must be brain dead, that sentence does not make any sense. Get the wii zapper & good quality wii mote, put the controller inside and it's a good experience.

>> No.3248095

>>3247951
It's a terrible experience. Pretty much everything that came out for the Wii was ported to PS3 and can be played with the move, which is fairly close to 1:1 with only a frame of input lag.

Putting your already heavy controller in a dumb plastic attachment so it's horribly top heavy is the worst idea you could ever have.

The stuff on the Wii is set to retard easy mode to compensate for the fact that it's impossible to get any reasonably fast paced accuracy out of the gimmick controller of the century, and isn't really worth playing. At least the PS3 has HotD4 and Time Crisis.

Neither experience can ever hope to compare to something as basic as a NES zapper, but if you absolutely have to use LCDs, the Move is miles better. You're not going to be aiming down the sights, but that's unrealistic to expect from any current home setup.

This device is popular with audiophiles.
The 500X model of PS has the same DAC as the 100X model but it lacks the RCA jacks.
The guncon breakout cable lets you connect headphones or speakers directly without having to use the TV out or use a coupler and extension cable at the rear of the TV.
