Roller coasters are your best friend for money.

How much are you charging for it? If it's a pay-to-enter park, I'd hold off for a bit, but otherwise take a look at the excitement rating, and round that down. That's usually a pretty good estimate as to how much you should charge per customer, but if it's newly-opened, you can usually go full on jew mode, and charge 1.5x that.

Ironically enough, a single entrance could be safer. Pic related took my 5 gorillion hours in MS Paint, the red areas are places where guests will get lost, blue is entrance. Don't leave any dead-ends facing towards a park entrance, you either must proves a horizontal path that connects back to the main line or not do it i the first place.

Ride exits are exceptions to this though, they can be as weirdly shaped as you want, just put a no entrance sign where they connect back to the main path. With just a single entrance, you'll be able to have dead ends facing away from the entrance to give the pathing a more organic feel, but with two you'd need to stick to the grid layout pretty thoroughly, as bends and curves either way could create choke points.

There is a trainer for RCT1 called Codex, which is a hex editor with a UI. It allows you to change the position and rotation of objects, edit money, rides available, lift speed etc etc.

4Cars is less advanced (it can't hex edit like codex can), but just like 8cars for vanilla rct2 it can edit money, dates, ride operating modes, chain speeds, staff, weather etc etc.

http://www.nedesigns.com/utilities/

For both of these, you'll need something called the Drexler patch (it's all over rct fansites, just google it), which disables the anti-cheat code in rct1 so you are able to use trainers. The Drexler patch does NOT work with the Deluxe version (including the steam and gog versions) of the game, you'll either have to pirate RCT1 and the expansions as separate installations, or use the magic downgrade program somebody made on the rct subreddit, it should be in their wiki.

There are also .sv4 file workbenches for rct1 which are just flat maps with all the land available and a shitload of cash, and you could always just use Arid Heights.

>> No.3231316

>>3230869
Ehh not exactly RCT1 was slightly more frustrating. I'm pretty sure RCT1 didn't allow you to clear scenery automatically, if you tried to build a rollercoaster even one tree could prevent the coaster from being laid down. I think you couldn't preview what rides looked like on the ground until RCT2 as well. Another thing was guest would frequently get lost and the game would have little messages telling you about each individual guest who was lost. RCT2 only nags you about lost guests if there's a significant number of them

>> No.3231321

>>3231316
There's also a few tweaks to the rides. RCT2 is way more generous with how many cars/boats/trains you can have. RCT1 log flume only gives you enough boats to fill the station. RCT2 log flume has no problem giving you like 20+ boats for the same design. Log flume is way more efficient in RCT2.

RCT1 is kinda like an alpha build compared to RCT2, even deluxe doesn't address some of the shortcomings with the game. The game is still great but plays quite differently because you have to work around many odd gameplay mechanics. There's also a few parks that have rides that are basically death traps, they will eventually crash at some point if you don't rework them ASAP.

That small lake in the middle looks a bit out of place. Maybe there's a river that connects to it. Maybe it rolls off of that mountain in the left corner. Don't forget to put some happy little trees and perhaps a few bushes in there somewhere.

Playing Whispering Cliffs in RCT1, I wanted to expand my chairlift to the lower section of the park. Problem is, the chairlift runs from the second station all the way to the third without stopping near the entrance again. Adding a fourth station to the upper end made a back trip a whopping two minutes without stopping at other stations, rather than the about 40 seconds for the normal distances. Anything that can be done about this? And do RCT2 and OpenRCT2 behave the same way too?

Another thing I noticed, with that configuration of station numbers, excitement dropped from ~3 to 1.5, while demolishing and rebuilding stations in order raised it to 3.2.

>> No.3249528

>>3249505
transport rides are pretty broken. The game considers them a normal ride, not a method of transportation. The excitement dropped because it was simply too long of a trip.

As far as I know, chairlifts will go stopping-all-stations in OpenRCT no matter how many you have, but there is a limit before you can't build anymore stations (6 is the max iirc)

>> No.3249562

On mac, got RCT1 off of GOG. I have the game running fine, except for whenever I try to load or save anything the colors get inverted and make it so you can't see anything. Is there a way to fix this?

>> No.3249572

>>3249528
I know the limit is 4 stations in RCT, which would be just about enough for this crammed scenario. Welp, at least the lift still keeps visitors occupied and turns a profit.

Another question: How ready is OpenRCT2 as a replacement for the main game? Does it work with both RCT1 and RCT2 scenarios, rides etc.? I only learned about it recently and the version number suggests a rather early development stage.

When placing a prebuilt coaster / one you've saved, you can hit a button to mirror the whole thing so all left turns become right turns and vice verse.

If you build a coaster with that intentionally in mind, you can place a second, identical coaster next to the first one with the stations side by side. Doing that let's you set the stations to synchronized launch, so both trains leave the station at the same time, this nets you better ratings.

All mazes have a set rating so it doesn't matter how big you make it. Therefore the smaller the design, the better which also means guests leave it faster so they can go out and spend more money elsewhere.

Any guides to making both stats-good and good-looking rollercoasters? My parks are fine, look good, I make money, but I can't for the life of me design a coaster that's both good and good looking, and I already struggle with just one or the other.

>> No.3282858

>>3282832
The main thing you need is scenery, coasters will always look out of place without scenery.

Wooden rollercoasters look best when they're not space constrained, don't just put a turn right after a drop make the coaster go out and around the park basically.

Steel coasters look decent even with compact designs but they do better when they're more spread out and you can make better use of inversions and other special pieces.

Don't put a steep hill right after a drop, it's a waste of power. You can make hills but make them the flatter ~30 degree incline instead and make sure they don't reach the maximum height of the previous drop so there's still plenty of speed left over.

>> No.3282901

>>3282832
Make your coasters look like real roller coasters.
Give your coasters a purpose. If they are low from the ground, make it flow with the terrain. Utilize everything around the coaster such as terrain, other rides, other parts of the roller coaster, paths, etc.. If you don't think you are good with that, then find a long and narrow section of your park and build an Out And Back coaster and just build to your heart's content because they don't require a lot of interaction. To boost your excitement rating, you can always spam trees around your coaster because they always fit in.

To get good stats all depends on one factor: g-forces. Watch your roller coaster and look at the g-forces graph. You should almost always have banked turns and you should rarely use the smallest curves, making lateral g's not that hard to lower. Only use unbanked and small turns if you are going very slow (under 20 mph). The main problem is vertical g's. Negative vertical g's cause air time, which is good (as long as you aren't going too fast). Positive vertical g's is where you'll probably get most of your intensity, so make sure that you don't go into steep hills too quickly, but if you must make sure that the beginning of the hill inclines slowly.
In short, don't make the train go into anything too fast, especially inversions.

In RCT1 the launch speeds were capped at 60mph for everything. In RCT2 the launch speeds were lowered to like 27mph for some rides and on other rides the launch speeds were raised up to like 90mph. If you cheat with OpenRCT2 you can unlock the speeds and make rides that go 500mph if you want.

Looks nice, but not exactly realistic. Nearly all modern theme parks are pay-at-the-gate, and places that do charge per ride just have ticket booths near the gate.

>> No.3284819

>>3284802
Yeah, the only theme park I went to where I had to pay per ride was the Wurstlprater in Vienna, which is just a bunch of temporary and permanent rides in an open park.

Then of course there are temporary rides at other events, such as fairs.

Most local parks (in Scandinavia, that is) have you pay for entering the park and then you buy tickets for going on rides. Or you get a ride pass and get unlimited rides.

>> No.3284980

What are the prices like then? Here in Germany you pay between 30 and 45 euros for a day ticket at most major parks, then only for overprized food, beverages and ride photos.

Looked up the prices for Liseberg. It's 10 euro for park entry, ~35 for unlimited rides and 2 euro for a ride ticket where rides cost 1-4 tickets. So for 45 euros you get entry and unlimited rides.

>8€ for riding a big coaster using tickets
RCT is more realistic than I thought lol

>> No.3285090

>>3284995
That's insane. Why would anyone not get the unlimited? The closest park to me, Kennywood use to have both, where it was like 1 or 2 tickets if you didn't have unlimited rides, but the only people who got the general admission were local teenagers who caused trouble. So now it is $44 for unlimited rides.

It's a quite park heavy park, with loads of shopping, food, shows and other entertainment so some people not that into rides might just want to go on some old favorite or ride something with their kids.

It was teenagers and old people.

My grandparents who live right in West Mifflin always did general admission because they wouldn't ride anything, just chill out and watch the youngest grandkids go on kiddie rides and whatnot.

I miss Kennywood... Six Flags over Texas is the closest to me now, and its too fucking hot, smells like a god damned gym sock and has way too many fucking people. Only time to go is like, between christmas and new years, because less people and not summer in Texas, but then half the rides are closed.

Yuo have to point it to the directory where RCT2 was installed. The directory varies depending on the version you have installed though.

It might be something like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 Triple Thrill Pack\"

if you have the GoG version installed.
