I've never played any Metal Slug game so I'd like to correct this. What's the best way to play those games nowadays? Upon googling I noticed Steam had a bunch of them but all the comments are saying it's badly emulated (as usual).

So far what I'm planning on doing :

Metal Slug 1 - ?
Metal Slug 2 - ?
Metal Slug 3 - ?
Metal Slug 4 - ?
Metal Slug 5 - ?
Metal Slug 6 - ?
Metal Slug 7 - DS

What about the remakes, spin-offs, compilations listed over there? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Metal_Slug_video_games#Remakes

Metal Slug 7 - PSP (under the title Metal Slug XX)

I don't know about the Steam release, as far as I know it's just a hacked Final Burn emulator. That should cover up to MS5.
Anyway get the anthology for MS6.

Might be a dumb question but isn't there an arcade emulator out there? If so wouldn't it be best to get that and emulate all the first Metal Slug games that were originally on arcade? I don't even have a TV anymore, just a PC and a DS (with a sd card, so I can put roms on it).

They emulate perfectly on WinKawaks and Fightcade. Fightcade also usually has a few people sitting in the lobby to netplay X and 3 at most times.

Yeah that's probably the best route to playing all games in single player. Get the latest PPSSPP and get the anthology + XX isos off emuparadise.

You know I'm sure I might get shit for this but the metal slug anthology on ps2 and wii is pretty good in my opinion. Few problems with slowdown but nothing awful for me.

2, 4, and 5 are let downs.
I can't vouch for 6 nor 7 but i hear 6 was a step in the right direction or the NGPC ones.
3 imo is the best and saved for last.
Metal Slug advance looks meh, try that if you liked.
